Sharps 1874

How do you get the Shiloh up here and what would the cost be? Canadian importers charges $750 just for the paperwork, then the taxes and the combined shipping, and of course the original price in US funds:eek:

Whoa there fingers, back up a bit, do you know something we don't, i know that is how it was a few years ago, but not since 9-11ish. Lots of people ordering Shilohs and C. Sharps but must go through an agent of some sort for US export B.S., that is my understanding.

One needs a canadian import certificate and needs to register it. Of course there is american papaerwork. Ive been told there is a fee for state department expenses. I have 2 being shipped this week so Ill let you know how it is. A good canadian importer is prophet river firearms and good american exporters are ETSS in colorado and Leroys in Montana. Ive been told that Leroys may go out of business because the state department has levied a new fee.
Any bpcr doesn't need US paperwork. Just pay Shilo for gun-Register Serial # here and have it shipped.

I've got a buddy with a 40-65 in a Hepburn. First time I shot it I went 10/10 on rams. Plus there's something about the Remington that the Sharps just doesn't have.

Bigugly dude.....Are you tryin' to start something here? Well I'm not taking the bait, cause i like Hepburns as well. There's an outfit down in the states making them, there was an article in Black Powder Cartridge News about them, they start at $3800 US. I'd like one in one of the straight Rem. 44 cals.

Those Italian Sharps do not compare to the 2 Montana made Sharps...Shiloh Sharps and C. Sharps..........and what I've seen of the prices, they cost near the same. Shiloh Makes their own barrels and C. Sharps use Badger barrels, probably the best BP or cast bullet barrels made. In competition these are the 2 names seen in the winner circle, better fit, better steel, properly dimensioned, no comparison. Now ask me which is better? C. Sharps or Shiloh?
I'll bite
Which would you prefer,and why?
With 40-65 don't you have size the brass to get that caliber

I'd get the C. Sharps because i won't wait 18 months or more for a new gun, just how I am. The 40/65 has gotten quite popular and brass is now made for it by Starline, careful as their is brass in the orig. specs. and also for the newer, Shiloh chambers, as altered by Ron Long(I think). This goes for dies as well...many early .40s incl. 40/65s had .406 or .408" bores, most modern replicas have .410 or so bores.

Hi Ben
How do the prices compare for the C. Sharps. Im having trouble comparing them

The base prices appear similar, i noticed the options/extras are more for the Shiloh, however the extras with Shiloh may be of higher quality, I'm not sure. If i remember correctly the top upgrades of wood are about double for Shiloh, and it could indeed be a higher grade of wood, not sure......Ben

ben don't forget with the C Sharps you also get the Old Reliable Logo engraved in the barrel and you do not get that with a shiloh.

Ken.

My Shiloh 45-120 has Old Reliable stamped on the barrel as well as C. Sharps Arms Co. and on the receiver flat Shiloh Arms Mfg.
Big Timber Montana....serial # is 4 digit making it one of the rifles with a Badger barrel supplied to Shiloh by C. Sharps before Shiloh made barrels.

Kevan...that could be collectable one day.
Flinter; Sharps 1874 ....Large offset hammer, requires cocking, double set triggers, the true "Sharps"
C. Sharps '85....Highwall copy, center hammer, cocks on closing, steamlined look
C. Sharps'75...."nicest rifle Sharps never made" nothing to recommend on this but $300 less then the 2 others.
So it comes down to whether you like the big hammer Sharps look or the Winchester Highwall look.........Pm me if you have questions as there are alot of historical facts to these guns which may explain their popularity then and now or their lack of popularity....Ben

I personally know of 2 BPCR guns recieved in Canada with no US paperwork in the last 10 months. One went to Sask. the other to Alberta. The guy from Alberta stopped at Big Timber and bought a gun off the rack. They photo copied his PAL . When he got home he registerd the gun. They shipped the gun with only the copy of his P A L and B O S in the box. He picked it up at the post office about a week later.

THis only aplies to single shots , From what i understand lever guns such as 44-40, 32-20 etc. don't qualify .
