A guy I know has a unregistered browning stainless 270 that he is wanting to sell.He is wondering if it is legal to sell the gun unregistered. He dosnt have a fac, sayz he hasn't gotten around to take it,and just hasn't bottered to register his gun.

I got an unregistered gun from an uncle who passed away and registered it.This was before the amnesty and was a big hassle, took me almost 6 months. One of the big hassles was trying to get it verifyed.

With the amnesty could you not just claim the gun was yours and you "forgot" to register it when you did your others.I think they'll just be happy to add to there confiscation list.As a prospective buyer you could call the CFC and ask them about it before any money changes hands.

Possession of an unregistered firearm is a 'crime' isn't it? I wouldn't broadcast it to the world. You have the amnesty but if you're ever busted with unregistered firearms, I think you may be in for a world of hurt.

I have registered previously unregistered firearms as recently as 3 months ago and it's absolutely no problem. Nobody asks why it wasn't registered before, etc. They just wanted make, serial number, calibre, barrel length and action type. You only need a verifier if the above info doesn't match with what they have, and if it does match they will get it in progress right then. What I would suggest, is have it registered in your name (assuming you have a PAL) or someone who does, then list it and sell it. You don't need to wait for the paperwork, you can sell it the day after your register it over the phone, and then everyone's covered. Like it was mentioned, unregistered probably are worth more, but knowing that it's a criminal code offense to sell it to someone without a PAL, is it really worth what, maybe a hundred bucks more?

If you think that is the case, please explain your definition of 'amnesty'.

Let me repeat - under the current amnesty you will NOT be prosecuted if you are a VALID PAL holder and in possession of unregistered NON RESTRICTED firearms. The CFC link I posted before seems quite clear on this matter.

Of course, I'm not a lawyer, but it seems pretty evident to me that it's not going to be prosecuted.

Whether or not you are allowed to post them on here, I'm not sure.

From the forum rules:

The following topics will not be tolerated. Violation will result in immediate and permanent suspension. Some quasi legal/ grey/downright illegal examples that are specifically not tolerated are:

Shipping and driving items to Canada from the US that require US export permit.

Discharging firearms in places where firearms are not allowed to be discharged.

Manufacture or use of flammable and explosive substances or “tracer” projectiles.

Unblocking 5 rd magazines to regular capacity.

Swapping non-restricted barrel for restricted barrel at gun range.

Home made firearms with illegal or misleading markings. For example, marking a chunk of metal with "Valmet 78".

Solicitation of unregistered firearms or magazine kits.

May be against forum policy, but definitely not illegal, as long as the amnesty is in place. That said, if you/he is worried about it, then just register it in your name and sell it for him.

Seeing how you already posted this thread, you will likely have a bunch of PM's to buy and won;t have to register it anyway.;)

I gotta go to the top on this one cause it's really grey.

On one hand the amnesty is on and on the other it's against forum rules.

I'll let the boss decide this one, I have no jam.

..........now,...how would the board Moderators know that it was unregistered?...that would be between the buyer and seller...now, actually stating in the post that it's unregistered would be unneccesary and...just dumb.....the potential buyer would have the option of backing out on the deal once he was informed it was in fact, unregistered.

Amnesty on means that no, it isn't.

You can register them over the internet if you want even, just needs a phone call to the cfc to start first.

P.S. - why bother registering? you don't have to, don't give an inch!

If you have a PAL it's not a problem.Just put it in your name and sell it for him. The cfc dosn't care as long as it's not stolen.
Or well uh em just find a bu....................................................

I don't think he wants me to register the gun as he thinks it is worth more registered.Thanx for the can and cant do's.

The way we find out, is that the potential buyer aware of the CGN Rules, advises the Admin/Mods.

Advertising unregistered firearms for sale on the CGN EE would usually bring a permanent ban from the site.
