what is the smallest thing(living thing) at the furthest distance you can range?
Depends on how steady your hands are......... well and how reflective it is and the light conditions and the weather.
yah I know all that but i need some first hand experience. what have you ranged and at what distance?
if it can range a deer at 500yards will it range a coyote at 500? can any of them range a gopher to 500 yards?
You'd be lucky to see a gopher at 500 yards through a 6x rangefinder.I have ranged coyotes in excess of 500 yards.
Unless whatever you are ranging is skylined, it's pretty easy to get a reading off the ground or trees beside what you are ranging. Do you really think you are steady enough to hold a laser on a gopher at 500 yards, especially considering that most range finders only give you 6x magnification. You can use a tripod with the Swarovski. So yes you can be steady enough with the right help.
what did you use to range the coyotes at/over 500 yards?
You still have to see it! Yes, you can tripod mount them but pretty impractical for most hunting purposes.

8x Swarovski. Equivalent to higher magnification with lesser glass. This was in reference to your post on varminting.
I agree that the Leica is the best value for a high end range finder. I actually ordered the Leica and changed my mind at the last minute. with the dollar at par and the demo sale on the Swarovski, I figured it was my one shot to get one. I was right.
Swaro is an awesome rangefinder but I still doubt you could pinpoint and range a gopher at 500 yards........even with 8x.......possibly though.
