hehe....my M14 actually sleeps with me, but under the bed. I love the scent of G96 sipping slowly form under the bed and permeate the bedroom....my wife asked "what is that strange but nice smell around here" and I say "not sure but probably my aftershave"....

Well, I wouldn't necessarily call mine "beautiful" but it is not too bad. One thing worries a bit: after I applied whole bunch of Tru-oil coats, I then I had to do some fitting so I used a sharp nife to make necessary cuts to make room for the metal pieces.....man, either my knife is so sharp or that wood is so soft, the knife cut it as if it was cutting butter....I mean, the wood is now nice and dry and Tru-Oil went pretty deep, but still, the wood chipped very easily with my knife. I am curious how many rounds I will be able to fire before the stock splinters become lodged deep in my shoulder. It makes a nice solid sound when you knock on it but the knife cuts it a little too easily. Anyone had similar observation?

I remember saw a clip on youtube tow guys were testing out flash hider on two M14 and one with a functional and the other one is stock.

On that clip it does show the functional one does quite a bit less muzzle jump, I will see if I can find that thread.

I never got a chance to check out my new toy yet (gotto spend some time with my 5 yrs old boy) and hopfully one weeknight's evening because I need to get a pail or something to clean the grease / cosmoline etc off first and then degrease the stock.

I might ended up with a USGI fiberglass stock but if mine's looks as nice as your I will probably leave it (I think yours look very nice for a chu wood stock)!

Post pics of your group size (if possible) after the test fire so we know how good these stock Norinco perform.

And I have to agreed on what heavybullet said about the laminated stock thy looks really nice and I remember when browsing the gallery section on the M14 I saw one with the Grey color laminate (pepper) looks really nice and I am still debating should I get a fiberglass or that one.
 
Well you better make your mind soon, because if you read the thread I linked earlier, the guys mentions that Boyds no longer produces them, so you have to get the remaining ones. Read post nine from that thread.

Thanks for your advice!

I really like the laminated stock but I also want the GI fiberglass because I have both fiberglass and wooden stock, my finding is unless the wooden stock is a show piece otherwise you can not beat the fiberglass for the level of abuse it can take.

Mags Dont Lock

Abalas, all three of my mags would not lock in place. If you search the forum you will find a few references to this. The problem is the placement of the block that is spotwelded to the back of the mags relative to the sepecific dimensions of your reciever. Specifically, the mag/block do not seat far enough into the mag well to allow the locking tab to snap into place under the block. I did not realise this until I was at the range for the first time - you can imagine the words I used when I discovered that my new toy that I had waited on for months was a lowly single shot and I had to hold the mag in place with my hand to get it to feed at all :mad: :mad: :mad:

The "welfare fix" is simple - use a file to "very carefully" dress the bottom of the spot welded block. I wrapped the mag in masking tape first so I would not marr the fancy finish on the mag :rolleyes: and it took only 3 passes with the file to make it snap properly into place (I did a trial fit after each pass) It still takes a whack to get them to seat, but they are all fine now. Dont forget to get some oil on the fresh metal asap

3 mags, ouch, that sucks. My other two work nice and click solidly in place and release just as easily. I am thinking of sending this one mag back to marstar to get a replacement but I suppose the mags needs to fit specifically my receiver so there is still a chance that the new mag might also not work. I will do a bit of careful filing but I will wait for Hungry's clinic before I do anything.

I struggled for a couple of months before taking the plunge and glad I did!

Although I have own other semi before (mainly a bolt action guy) but this M305 is something worth consider and my thought was grap one before its gone or harder to find.

I am sure if you really wants one you can still find one at reasonable price.

Been waiting for a pair of Marstar M14s. Went to post office last night and saw the big box sitting there, but they won't give it to me because I don't have the package notice from my mail box yet. Maybe today.

Last night was like being told Christams was delayed a day.

I love opening a box with a new gun in it. Even more interesting with Norinco boxes because they are like a box of chocolates....
