Russian SKS45 long thread.

Great! Here I am thinking I'm going to pay extra for a minty hand select Russian SKS, & I may end up with a POS. Now I am really in a good mood .

George

I am pretty sure Marlin was not saying they were crap - he was simply making sure that people don't have an unreasonable perception as to what these guns will look like. Even if they are unissued, they are over 50 years old, so they will have been handled and dinged etc...but, they will not be POS.

And Val, I missed the black dress...

I think some members are confusing "hand select" with "mint unissued". Paying that extra fee simply guarantees that you're not getting the next carbine at the top of the dealer's pile.

You are paying to have one of the employees look over several carbines, then in his own opinion, choosing the one that appears the best. If all the carbines in his lot are of the same general condition (ie: all refurbished, stamped matching, blued finish, etc), you would likely receive one that would have no arsenal repairs to the stock, no damage to the finish, maybe all birch, or all laminate.

Of course, this hand selection starts with whoever has their order at the top of the list, until it reaches the end. If you are near the end, the possible options for "select" may be quite limited. It's the luck of the draw.

The selection process is subjective and limited. They certainly won't be going through hundreds of carbines if they have hundreds of back orders and a lot of impatient customers bothering them. Patience, folks.

The surplus 7.62 ammo has steel casings and apparently cannot be reloaded. That said, a guy at our club has used US-manufactured brass (Winchester?) to load some very good ammo, with 1" groupings at 100 yards. I don't have the details about his loads, but I saw the results, so the possibility exists.

Yeah, steel's no good. After I shot all of mine off, I bought nothing but brass reloadable rounds. My chinese was insanely accurate out to 60m, didn't try at 100m.

Yeah, well when you have such a large volume of rifles, time you bill each rifle, pack each rifle, call CFC for each rifle, and bring them to be shipped to each address, it can take a few days... emails aside.

they don't have to call CFC.
dealers can transfer over the internet, thats what crafm did with my m14s...

95% of the hand selects are all matching numbers, please keep in mind that these are $250.00 surplus russian rifles, not $2500.00 Custom German Blauser rifles. We will do what we can to get the best for those who requested it.

Hand selects that are all matching, what else can you ask for. This is exactly what I wanted. If there was a never fired never refurb in the crate in absolute collector condition they would keep it anyway.

Thanks for the update Frontier!

hope I don't get the 5% one that does not match but I am fairly confident as my CC was billed on the 15th and I ordered early.

Didn't know that. Is it only for major dealers? I've bought firearms from some fairly big places who had to call CFC to do the transfer.

There is a dealer page on the CFC site. Dealers can also search what's in their inventories, do dealer to dealer transfers, transfer to and from individuals into and out of their inventories etc.

If companies choose not to use it, such is their loss.

Restricted, prohib, and other consignment sales to individuals must still be called in.
