270wsm sako

Why? Would you compare the .300 WSM to a .30-06?

No, the .30-06 has different numbers in the calibre description...you don't know much about marketing do you????? For get about common sense here and think about selling guns to the masses............ .30-06 WSM wouldn't be nearly enough defence against old Ephram on a sheep hunt but a .300WSM sure would be.;) This is about selling guns to guys that buy into the marketing hype...not guys let common sense enter their buying decisions.

Funny, no one ever compares the 300 or 7mm WSM to the Weatherby calibres

Only because there are are much more common magnums by Remington and Winchester available. That isn't the case with the 270WSM.There really only is one other 270 magnum, the WBY.
But you are right, marketing is hype, with some sneaky deception added in at times. And Winchester and Browning did a great job marketing the WSMs to people that really don't understand ballistics. They mixed and matched loads and bullets to make the 300wsm seem ballistically superior to the 300winmag,and many people didn't even realize that they were being mislead.

That's the only point I was trying to make.

No, only because the WSM were not ballistically superior to the Weatherbys and they wanted to compare with cartridges that the average shooter was familiar with. Average shooters aren't familiar with Weatherbys......

Of course Winchester and Browning would not want people comparing the 270WSM to the 270 WBY,but it certainly is a logical comparison for more knowledgeable shooters. Then again,Winchester and Browning propaganda was not targeting knowledgeable shooters, since they would not be so easily sold by the hype.

You do realize sheephunter has been trying to stress that for like 2 pages now eh? :D

Well considering Weatherby is the only one really chambering the 270 Wby, that probably has a lot to do as to why the WSM has become much more popular..... Almost everyone chambers for it....

Flatter shooting makes for increased accuracy. Would you use a 22 short on sheep?

So if a gun is chambered in 220 swift but for whatever reason barely keeps bullets on a pie plate at fifty, due to the fact that its a flatter shooter its automatically more accurate than a 22lr that shoots the eyes outta flies...OH oookay. I'm staring to wonder about the starter of all these threads.
:sucks: like the most of them
