My mags seat OK, but are impossible to remove without pulling the trigger group. Looks to me that the notch in the front of the mags are too short. I don't want to fiddle with the notch with out checking here first.

The problem occurs with all 3 mags supplied by Marstar, 2 short and one long.

Has anyone else had and resolved this issue?

Further development.....

I removed the op rod spring guide, and reassembled the rifle. The mags are managable (removal wise) with the spring guide removed.

are you using the neutered 20 rnd mags or the shrimpy 5rnd ones? The 5rnd ones are bad for that, there aint much you can do.

Also, the oprod spring guide is in the rifle for a reason, dont take it out. Besides being the "oprod spring guide", the tip of it acts as the point that the hole in the front of the mag locks onto, to keep it from falling out.

Easiest fix is to go get some 20/5 mags

If you are using the small 5 rounder, they are rather difficult to pull out but shouldn't be THAT difficult. Have you tried any other magazines? If its just that magazine maybe a better grip via a magpull would be helpful.

Some people on the board made mag pulls for the shot 5 rounders, I'd link it if I could find it.

Or if you aren't that adventuress you could buy one from https://dstactical.com/product_info.php?cPath=58_61&products_id=153
Havnt used one myself but they seem to do the trick.

Problem solved.

I filed a slight bevel on the bottom of the mag catch block. Technique helps as well. Push the mag release forward to the point that mag causes the spring guide to compress the op rod spring. Barring fit friction, they all essentially pop out by them selves now.

It worked OK after? I never got a chance to see the final result after we got the pin installed. You went to trim the pin and then I got into another project. How does it work?

It sure did! The damaged pin didn't allow the release lever to rotate sufficiently for consistant releases. Drove me crazy at the range as I would have to remove the trigger group inorder to get the mag out.

Thanks for your help with the replacement! I really appreciate it.

I have a slightly different problem - my 20 rounder doesn't compress the op rod spring to the point that it catches. I have to feed the magazine and push it forward slightly to get it to click. Anyone else have this problem?

I had mag problems from square one. At first; they would not lock in place; period. Filing down the catch block solved that issue. After that, I had mag release issues. Beveling the catch block helped, but did not eliminate the problem. Close inspection of the mag release assy roll pin indicated that the pin was out of position. When we drove the pin out we discovered that it was only half a pin length wise. Try replacing the pin before doing any filing.

Gnmontey - just so I am clear, it was the roll pin that holds the spring loaded mag release button which was your issue?

Wish I had read this first - I hate removing metal when I dont have too ...:(:(

Correct, the pin that the mag release lever hinges on. Check the roll pin before attempting any filing.

If you do decide to replace the pin cut it to length before installing. It's kind of a pain to cut down after it's installed.

that split rollpin has been the culprit with a few rifles i have inspected now.
symptoms observed so far.
-mag feels secure, fire first round and mag pops loose
-mag will not come out once snapped in place
-rifle strips first round from mag but once fired the bolt fails to strip a second round
all three of these scenarios I have observed in a few rifles now.... new from box ones and used ones. ALL have had a split rollpin and once replaced..... problem solved. No metal surfaces were harmed with a file or similar tool in the solving of these problems :D
