HK USA releases.............HK556 and HK762

Euro version MR223 can be shipped to Canada because there are no restrictions for exporting it or importing it here. However it cannot be shippet to the US because of US import restriction. There is no need to make the MR556 for the Euro market because that is what the MR223 is for.

Thus, the HK MR556 is made in the US for the US market. It cannot be exported because of US restrictions. If the MR556 was made in Germany, the US restriction would prohibit it fron being imported. Some parts are made in Germany and others are made in the US. The final product is assembled in the US.

MR223:
Expot approoved: YES
Import to Canada: YES
Import to USA: NO

MR556
Expot approoved: NO
Import to Canada: Yes, if export was permitted.
Import to USA: Its made there.

Also, I guess the US manufacture of these guns rules out any chance of seeing them imported direct from Europe....
The U.S. manufacture was set up to get around the so-called "machine gun import ban" that makes it illegal to import "military style" riles into USA. HK also makes the same gun in Germany (known as MR223 and MR308). It's already on sale in Europe and will be available here in the near future.

UncleWalther has one of the MR223, we are not talking about that rifle, see post above. :)

It's the same thing...One's made in Europe, the other in the USA. There is only a few small differences between the two. Bottom line is the US Model will not be allowed for export because of it's 5.56mm chambering (among other things).

hmm Im wondering if MR762 would it be consider AR variant or not? since its 7.62 and AR-10 was not consider a AR-15 variant.

the Americans judging by the comments aren't to keen on the Non compatibility issue with the receivers as well as the delivery date many think it will arrive in time for the Next AWB
