Does anyone make an aftermarket kit or trigger that makes the m700 factory positioned safety a 3 position? I know there are kits that use a wing style safety on the shroud but I'm more interested keeping the safety in the factory location.

the end result is I want to be able to lock the bolt down so it won't open while backpacking

Thanks

Earlier Remington safeties locked the bolt, but you had to put the rifle on fire to open the bolt. The current version does not lock the bolt, so you can open the bolt without the rifle being in firing condition. I am unaware of a 3 position direct replacement safety. It would be easy to install the early safety, if you didn't mind the two position aspect.

I use a rubber band looped through the trigger guard and over the bolt to hold the bolt closed while I am using the sling. The bolt will still operate if you need it quickly. A box of rubber bands is about a buck for a hundred.
