Is there any regulations that state that a barrel should be re-identified after its been rechambered. for Example, if you re-chambered a 7 Remington magnum to 7 STW ?

My only concern going forward is if I would come to sell it. Im not personally worried about stuffing the wrong ammo in it.

No. Rechamber away.

None of my registration certs list the calibre.... do yours? :)

It's a good idea to stamp the chambering on the barrel if you ever want to sell it, but it's not a legal requirement.

I asked CFC this question and they said to tell them what the new caliber is when it is done. ???? They say that calibe ris in THEIR records -- i am too tired to figure out if they have that info or not....

No regulations.
The cert. may not list calibre, but the registry data base certainly does.
Marking calibre could be a safety issue.

Who ever alters it is not legally obligated to mark the barrel. There is no law against stupidity.

^ X2 It's not required but I bet you would regret not doing it if your son/friend/ favourite nephew were to chamber the wrong cartridge and have a failure thar resulted in their injury. Do it right or don't do it at all.

I would imagine most gunsmiths would insist on re-stamping the barrel, I actually prefer it that way but wanted to know what was involved if it didnt' end up happening. I will talk to him about it so see what is involved.

Do It

I would restamp the barrel. I have an 8mm Mauser I inherited or so I thought it was a Mauser. I chambered a 30-06 in it just to see and thought well now I have a 8mm-06. Made some rounds and fired the first few just to find out it's an 8mm-06 Improved, ####!

If the cartridge change had been more drastic could you imagine the outcome. As a result I have since stamped the barrel 8mm-06 IMP just in case I ever sell the rifle or die suddenly and someone else ends up with this rifle.
