On another post someone recommended Hogue Grips for a S/A revolver (see photo). Is it just me or do grips of this style increase the felt recoil? Rather than the revolver rolling in your hand when fired this style grip forces the recoil straight back into the web of the shooter's hand. What are your thoughts on S/A revolvers and synthetic grips? Regards, Richard:)

My recommendation: stay with the original wooden grip. Without proper knowledge, I change my ruger .357 blackhawk with a hogue grip and find the same thing: the recoil became terrible. For single action revolver, just let it roll in your hand. Now I shoot my super blackhawk in .44 magnum with the original wood grip. The recoil is heavy but very manageable, even with a small hand like me.
 
Good sixgun.
A lot of NM stocks are far too round. When round, they give little indication if the gun is straight unless your finger is on the trigger for reference. If then it feels "twisted" then you have to readjust. Time consuming and bass ackwards. Better to know the gun is "straight" when you grab before the finger is anywhere near the trigger.
Felt recoil is obviously subjective, but an SA grip frame of either Colt or Ruger's XR3-RED dimensions will "roll" with recoil nicely with smooth stocks. In my view, rubber stocks on an SA will just accentuate jerk and oppose exactly what the hogleg was designed to do.
 
It's only a good grip for the dragoon trigger guard models. Otherwise go for smooth wood or faux ivory. Or real ivory if your first name is sheik.
