I have just read where we were unsuccessfull in getting the previous exemptions on bullet weights and in praticular mag lengths. Since many of us shoot only in Canada and travel to the US why do we bother with IPSC and not become an area for USPSA

See the other thread on the letter in USPSA's magazine Front Sight.
That will give you a clear indication of what USPSA would think of Canada being an "area".
They want us as much as they want Obama in the White house.

Any club can run USPSA matches and classifers, a number of clubs have in the past in order to classify shooters who could not otherwise make it to US clubs or classifier matches to shoot the area or National matches as a classed shooter.
You would not see an "Area 9" situation unless the US pulled out of IPSC. Otherwise they are encroaching on another country. But I know USPSA is more than happy to have Canadians join and take part in their matches.

I have expressed my concerns locally with regard to "the box". I am no carpenter, and I fear that the box I have at my level II matches is not to the right specifications. My concern is that should a competitor be bumped to Open because his/her gun doesn't fit the box, they might arbitrate the box and I will have to take it out of the match. Although my section has promised a box that meets tolerances, I worry that on match day, with so many things going on, I might forget the box at home on accident or bury it somewhere so deep in the trunk of my car that I won't be able to find it unless I REALLY need to.

Does anybody have any suggestions around this dilemma for me?

edit:
Hey! How did my post count go down? I had over 1000 at one point.

exemptions

....no worries, unless you're using 115 grain bullets (in your Open div gun) which we DO NOT have the exemption for anymore.....120 grain minimum........I guess that also means steel is OK to be set at 7m from shooter, 8m from charge line ???, at least we can still safely set it at 10m (11m from charge) and comply with existing rules

Why do people rely on theyre equipment to make them a better shooter than just theyre ability. Its not that hard, just try it:evil:

At the end of the day this only effects one division. It's not like they are limiting us to calibre or make of gun. The $500 - $1000 that it will take for us to replace our mags to 126mm likely won't stop any of us from shooting. I think anyone of us has that much in gear we already don't use lying around the gun room. I have that much in powder that I don't use.

Yes is sucks. Worse case scenario buy a cmore and shoot open with your .40you won't need the comp or sell your stuff to me and buy a production gun.

The issue is more that many people HAVE $500-$1000 that they invested in magazines for this sport. For competitors that have no intention of even shooting a large Provincials/Nationals/International match, forcing them to shell out another $1000 for magazines is a bit unfair.

I just hate being bullied by a "global" group of any sort be it the UN or IPSC for that matter.

Is it really bullying when we were using an excemption. It's not like they changed the global rules, just ours. I'm not agreeing or disagreeing, just trying to keep my mind open.

I think BC is the same, but there are very few people in Alberta that shoot a $2000 plus gun that don't compete in the larger matches.
