Just curious if anyone had a chance to fire their new M14 from the latest batch of M14 (the very last ones from marstar)? I mean, without any mods and part swapping? What ammo did you use and what do you think of the performance? I am planning to take my new m14 to the range this week, preferably in the morning. So far there are a lot of posts on stock refinishing, oiling, greasing, stock swapping etc....I am just curious about all stock parts M14.

here's my result with PMC147gr. No test before mods though.

Barrel chopped to 18.75inch, marstar guide, shimmed(not sure if correctly, self invented) and USGI stock.
5 shots at 50yards, I think this is good enough

15 shots at 100yards, all aiming at "10", not sure how bad this is, but mostly like I believe it's my error.

Scoped or Irons? Benched or free hand? Your 100yd groups looks like my scoped SKS @ 100 benched. What is the dia. of the 9 ring in your image?

Got one for Xmas! Finally shot it today. 155gr Amax, Fed brass, WLR primer, 42.5gr IMR4064 (dumped from Lee measure). Best group from a cool fouled barrel was 2.25 inches for 5 shots at 100m! First load ever tried too. It also liked some cheapy Fed 150gr softpoint factory rounds. But for peep sights, the Amax load works for me.

One of the 5 round mags was not picking up the last round and locking open. I have someone that can check that for me. The same someone that will be loading up more ammo for me! ;)

shot mine earlier this month

I got out to the range the first week of January and pet her through the paces. have to say, it was pleasure to shoot, no failures to feed or eject. The accuracy was pretty good, but i wasnt testing that yet, I'm going to want to put a scope on it first. From what I could tell the rifle was not too hard on brass either, I cannot even tell if the shoulder moved up at all, I'll have to get it guaged at some point though. All in all it's a great deal so far!

What ammo did you shoot? Handloads? or the recommended 7.62 NATO?

Shot Remington UMC 150 gr cheapie rounds ($50 inc taxes for 60 rds at Bass Pro Shops in Vaughan). At 100 m was low and right about 8 inches. Group was pretty big (6 inches) but I haven't shot something this big for a while. Rifle worked fine once I figured out the gas plug thing. No mods done until Hungry's Barrie clinic and then will see how it goes now.

Abalas...

I was just shooting federal powershok 150 gr. softpoints. I haven't equipped myself for reloading yet. I was reading a magazine article that comapared the weights of different brands of brass, and from what it displayed, federal uses the same weight brass as their military cartridges, so I may hoard a bunch of that brand for reloading, unless there are other better recommendations. The rifle did leave a ding on some of the brass, and I am thinking of actually rounding the edges on the receiver where the brass is hitting to prolong it's life. Nothing drastic, just a bit of deburring really.

Where do you buy "cheapy" Fed 150 gr softpoint factory rounds? The ones I saw are not "cheapy" at all. Quite pricey actually....

In our house anything under $20/box is cheapy. I think this Fed was $18.99/box. But the reload recipe was awesome. I shoot peepsights very well and like I said before, 2.25inches at 100m! Had a guy calling my shots for me through a spotting scope. He was pretty impressed by a "girl" to say the least. He also owns am M14s but told me it doesn't group like that. He said he is gonna bring it all the time in case he sees me again so I can shoot it for him with my loads. Very nice fellow shooter with some restricted uber-toys!

I am very happy with my M14. At first, I never thought of buying the rifle but since it was the last one of the last batch, I said eh, why not! I planned to sell if but after a couple of rounds, this will be a keeper. It's a very accurate rifle for the price IMO. I shot PMC and Remington 150 gr and no problem so far.

got one last fall cleaned the grease off and cranked through about 120 rounds of Federal Power Shok [$13 /20 at Walmart in USA.] with no problems at all. still going strong with that and whatever surplus I can find. 308 win

By the way, when you stand by the ammo showcase at cambian tire in mississauga (mavis and hwy 5) there is a big note that says: "smile, you're on camera". This sucks, there is a special camera planted somewhere to take a picture of anyone just looking at ammo. This made me feel like I am some potential criminal trying to buy or steal ammo....like we are some public safety liability because we are just looking at ammo. I hate what's going on in this country and everywhere else. Pretty soon we're only be able to use bows and arrows for hunting and making holes in paper at ranges.

the Hwy 5 and Mavis location has a just a sign setup over the case, there is no real camera, its just for show. Its there do deter gangstas who can pick locks from stealing all the ammo.
