44 S&W = 10.4 Italian

I use 44 S&W brass. I got the 10.4 dies from buffalo arms, I think to bought the last set? I got a special mold made for the .422 bullet and got about 300 bullets. Made we should talk?;)

I figgered 44 Russian cases might work. My gun has a shortened very short 3and 3/4 inch barrel If 44 Russian cases fit in the cylinder im gona lead lap my Bore up to .429 :)

Being as its only just under 4 inch long shortened from factory orignal length lapping it out a few tho wont hurt nothing.
Then all my 44 Russian 44 Sp stuff will work.

be a nice hideaway cowboy spaghetti western gun!
being as its a Itialian gun :D

It would take several months of lapping time less work to size your bullets down. Lapping removes exceedingly little material in my experience. It would also be not that difficult for your resident machinist to make up a sizing die to neck the case down to fit the smaller slug.

-Haven't done it as my revolver hasn't arrived yet, but I plan to slug the bore & start with .44 Spl cases. The Handloader's Manual of Cartridge Conversions describes turning .44 Mag or Spl rims to 0.505", & cut the case length to 0.90". Sounds like you could just as easily start with .44 Russian as well, but since I have the most loose .44 Spl brass laying around at the moment that's probably best for me.
CH/4D has a great selection of dies in interesting calibres, including this one.
I hadn't looked into a special-order mould, but had considered resizing some home-cast or off-the-shelf lead bullets which may require a custom sizer if needed, but again, I want to see & slug the bore first. I know I'd be looking at maybe 0.007-8" diameter reduction, but these aren't intended for long-range target loads so I'm not too worried.

Oh well we have some 44 Cal revolver barrel liner kicking around as well eh.
Your Right about the lapping being Slow, i forgot about that.
Depends on the bore tho if its already worn bigger.
I want the gun Easy to load for so being as the barrels already been shortened relineing it (its probebly Pitted anyway) would be a easy job for my Machinest. ;)

Im pretty sure the Barrels are Screwed into the Frame eh.

I have a Italian Bodeo folding trigger gun. It,s stamped 1925. It has 10.4 on the barrel. Is this still the same cartridge? It's in nice cond. just not the prettiest one on the block.

Resurrecting this thread, I have a nice Italian model 1874 in 10.4mm Italian. Just checked the bore on it and it's exactly 10.4mm or 0.41'', has anyone reloaded for these, what did you use?

Read this on another forum "
"The 10.4 Italian cartridge is another one similar to the .44 S&W Russian. I twould be an effective short-range, self defense or small game hunting number.
Lyman cast bullet #421183 (225 grs.) cann be used for loading. Backed by 3.0 grains of Bullseye, it will deliver about 700 fps. These old guns are not intended for high pressures, so stick to moderate loads."

Factory black powder military load employed a 177 gr. lead bullet at 735 fps.
The factory smokeless powder load used the same 177 gr. bullet at 810 fps.
