Best way to measure OAL?

Better if you can measure to the ogive using a comparator rather than the bullet tip as the bullets could vary as much as .020 at the tip.

That's not gonna help you much to figure out ifthey are going to drag on the front of the magazine, though.

Good tool for setting the ogive onto the lands, or figuring out wher the ogive is in relationship to them, but it's not getting anywhere close to overall length.

Those dial calipers would be the best bet.

The OAL gauge will tell you if the cartridge is too long, or not, but will not tell you by how much.

I think Crappy Tire has their digital calipers on for under $20 again right now.

Might not use them for serious machining etc. but plenty accurate for most reloaders.

i picked up the mecahanical one with the gauge on it it looks more durable than the digital even tho it was the same price it was not a mastercraft some other brand worked great for what i did with it....

I use a mechanical one as well, work just as good if not better, usually can get a better quality mechanical for the same price as a cheapie digital, some people just have problems reading them over the digitals.
