Does anyone know where to find info on these new rifles, if they are restricted or not? I searched the posts and found the list(s) of firearms that are restricted/prohibited etc. but could not find anything on these new ones.

I suppose if one wants a quality non-restricted semi auto with adjuatable pistol grip similiar to one of these our only option is to go with Mini 14 and aftermarket stock?

AR variant = Restricted

Best we can do is try to de-restrict it and using Remington as an example should present a clear reasoned message to why it should be non restricted. Makes and excellent hunting rifle.

There are quite a few non restricted black rifles. HK SL8-4 I believe the Beretta CX4, AR 180B, etc

the CX4 is restricted in it's normal form because the barrel length is under 18.5" .you can make it non-restricted by changing the barrel to one over 18.5" and several people have done this.

Yes, but the CX4 is not restricted by name, the AR-15 is named as restricted by an Order in Council. Any AR-15 or variant is restricted just by that virtue. However, the CX 4 was never affected by the OIC's and its status is determined by its features.

I am beginning to think a couple AR related questions should be put into the PAL test.
Next week when someone asks the same question again, you will agree with me:)

So tired of these questions? Ya know what I am tired of? All the fricken know it alls on this board that come onto a post like this and complain about it. From the post heading it is obvious what the post is about. If you dont what to hear people question things like this dont read the fricken post.

I feel your pain. After all, the search feature is almost impossible to use.

Yes they're restricted, but still gobs of fun to shoot(Any Ar is). and just in case you were on the fence about buying one. Price out a non real tree DPMS, or Bushmaster. Yes I needed to change the trigger, install a prs stock as well as change the grip on my R-25, but I would have done that anyway. Buy it and talk to your useless political rep. in Rottowa about de-restricting them. Let em know you want the same rights as them.

The whole been asked before, use a search thing has always baffled me. I have been online since the early 90s, and have seen it kill many a good forum. If everyone simply searched old posts, the discussion on a forum dwindles fast.

Completely awesome use of the search acrashb! Did you contribute to those threads?

Seriously guys. If you do not welcome questions, do not read the threads. It is very simple.

I have an R15 BTW. I didn't know it going in, but I love the rifle. If you want an AR rifle, this is a really good start. They have a bunch of the new stuff that the internet tells you that you'll need, like m4 cuts, and a crane o-ring, they shoot well(both in terms of accuracy and reliability in the cold), and they are inexpensive.

Nice counter-sarcasm - perhaps I deserved it. Having said that, my point was that it's polite to search on a forum before asking a question, especially when one has just arrived. I started that way.

On your question, I don't recall - but if you search on my 'name', you'll find many threads where I've contributed significantly.

As for the OP, any AR variant, defined by the lower receiver layout (and/or RCMP discretion) rather than cosmetic features like a camo paint scheme, is restricted.

In my opinion, these rifles present the best chance of getting an AR variant made unrestricted.

The Valmet M78 and Hunter models went from prohib to unrestricted which could be a compelling argument to support an exception for the R15/ R25. This strikes me as an excellent project for some of our lobby groups.
