...I just got a used BAR rifle for moose & bore sighted a new Leupold 2.5 - 7X VX 1 scope ... I have WW Super X 175 gr Powerpoint shells and Remington Premier A Frame shells in 160 gr (only gr available) ... trying to figure if the 160 A Frame is enuff for moose....I am thinking of also trying 175gr Remington PSP Core-lokt....I will be patterning all these shells. I have shot a .30-06 in 180 gr for many years out of a Rem. semi-auto for deer & moose using the A Frame with great results.
Any comments would be appreciated. I know where it hits is what counts...
I sight in for 50 yards....shots could vary from heavy slash to open clear cut
over 300 yards...

bullet construction is more important that bullet weight. The A-Frame will out penetrate a 175 gr Power Point or CorLokt.

I would suggest sighting your rifle 1-2" high @ 100 yards. Zero'd @ 50 yards your drop at 300 yards will be 11"........if you go +2" @ 100, you'll only drop 6" and the point of impact at 50 yards will only be off by 3/4 an inch, which on a moose sized target is not that much

Bartell actually got this right!
Just kiddin'. 160 is plenty. Given the choice between the two, hell there is no choice. The A-Frame is pretty well as premium as there is. Great bullet - a Nosler Partition "Improved" and a 7mm seems to work real well in the 160-165 range. High SD, great ballistics blah,blah,blah....you've heard it all before.
