I picked up a new 180b yesterday.. this was the first time I had a chance to check these out other than in the Sticky here (great job ArmedSask btw). I had been wanting to get one for a while, though admittedly it was on the priority list back burner. I had gone into the shop looking for something totally different but that was not in stock and the 180b was...so...whats a guy to do..lol (no, they do not come with the 10 rnd pistol magazine.. they come w/ a 5/20 round magazine)

#1bcshooter, you must have the worst luck ever. I've only heard of a handful of lowers breaking and you seem to have most of them.

I wouldn't worry much about the lower breaking. I've had my 180B for years and have never had a problem, nor have I ever babied it. It's one of those things that can happen but is rare.

Yep, I beat my 180B so much it actually should break, not as much as a hiccup. I do a lot of mods and the gun i use for R&D and just keeps ticking. One thing I have never done though, I don't let the upper swing out against the lower when I take it apart to clean.

Now if only Swiss Arms Classic rifles were as inexpensive as an AR180B ;) The 180B is a nice rifle for the money - hope you enjoy it!

I want one :D
I want one more than the type 97, but I can never find someone who has them in stock, Wolverine got a shipment but they were all spoken for as soon as they landed.

Brian,

Weren't the original ones coming with a stamped sheet metal reciever? They changed to a polymer later, at least that was my understanding.

is yours one of the stamped reciever models?

AR180B never came with a stamped sheet metal lower, they were always polymer.

I also got one of the first ones to enter Canada < 2000/2001?> and the only trouble I had was with the firing pin peened into the bolt assy by the hammer, due to poor hardening of the metal.

This was corrected with no muss, fuss or hassle by Mr. Wolverine, who immediately took care of the problem.

Original ArmaliteAR180's had a stamped sheet metal lower. These were prohibited under C68.

Ar180B is not considered a variant of the original AR180, hence it's restricted/non restricted status.

I bought one from a fellow CGNer almost a month ago, and I love it. I have been wondering just how many are stamped with 5.56mm on the upper receiver, as mine is stamped as such. Are most of them, or was it only the first few shipments to Canada?

That must have been what I had seen then, the AR180 and not the B version.

It was on the gunsmithing video for the AR15.

Tell me about it . I bought mine new from Wolverine about 4 yrs ago . Never dropped the receiver open , First one broke @ around 200 rnds , sent it back & they told me Armalite warranty dose not cover breakage at the hinge pin (As stated in the manual ) But they sent me a complete new rifle . Had many failure to feed from the curved Armalite mags that came with it . Before I contacted them about the feeding problem the second gun broke at the same point as the last one . This time at around 400 rnds . sent it back as well as informing them about the feeding problem . Waited wile they contacted Armalite . They sent me the same gun back with a new lower receiver & 2 new straight mags . Haven't had any problems since but i don't shoot it much anymore . Did put about 700 rnds through it to make sure it didn't break again . Wolverine finally told me Armalite had a bad production run on the lowers

Can I assume they sent you a new carrier? I had the same problem with mine, all I did was chamfer the hole to prevent and future peening. Never had a problem since and that was years ago.

I got mine NIB from wolverine a couple weeks ago and finally got to shoot it today. -25C or so out, but I needed to go shooting!

I put about 100 rounds through it. Three times I had a "click" when I pulled the trigger. Yes, there was a round chambered. Seems like the hammer spring is weak?? Not even an indent on the primer. Re-chambered the round and it fired.

I was running Winchester 55gr FMJ. Do they have hard primers????

PITA to get the elevation right. Cold may have had something to do with it. Still need to screw the front post in more. Windage I just adjusted the rear. I will play with the gas block another time when it's not so cold!

Other than that it ran great. need to get me some 10 round mags now....

Is it possible you have cold (thick) lube on the firing pin? You did clean the sucker right down before heading out in -25 weather and use a thin non-freezing lube, right?
