Backup parts kits for M-14s

I've been thinking about putting together a couple of parts kits for my M-14s; the stuff that's easily lost/broken/worn out.

I'm thinking at the minimum a couple of gas plugs, those irritating little castle nut set screws, a couple of bolt assemblies, and a couple of trigger groups. Is there anything else that people would recommend?

Roll pins are something that may be needed when you are swapping barrels, etc, but are not the sort of thing that should wear out no?

They break warp and get lost unless u never work on yer rifle

Sizes ? Every single diam and length. Why? Some of the Chinese sizes are metric and you may need to do some improvising, so look into those pre-assembled kits over at Princess Auto. The reason I say 'some' is that there are many different variations of Norinco M14's over the years and I've encountered all kinds of surprises. At least with the Springfield Armory M1A's and USGI M14's, there was some consistency and 'no nasty surprises' when it came to roll pins.

I was never the kind of person to accumulate too many of the same size, so I just bought a crapload of every size I found at Home Depot. Next thing I realize, I can bail out all my buddies with M1's ALSO!

Mine is staked in there with a piece of steel rod, so it does not let the oprod guide wobble the slightest. I have done this on a couple of rifles, and shot the snot out of them, but have never had one come loose.

I just want to plan ahead of time and having the needed parts available when attending your clinic

I have going to start a thread to obtain some feedback from those have attend your clinic before so I can have a list of things (parts / tools etc) to bring on that day!

Lots of pins in the norc - they can break when you hammer them out or in, and mash if they are to soft or get stuck and you have to hit them hard.

Go to Princess Auto & buy a complete roll pin kit for $9.95 and while your at it get all the brass & steel punches you need for cheap.

there is a guy on TFL, pm me if you don't know the name of the popular m14 site in the u.s.
the guy is Echo Grunt ..... he has crap loads of usgi complete roll pin kits for CHEAP and there's no issues with shippingthem north..... it's just roll pins.
I've dealt with him numerous times.

speaking from experience..

get yourself a spare extractor, ejector and spring, extractor plunger and spring..

you may never need them but for the less than 50 bucks that it costs for all the parts, its definetely worth putting in the kit.

Additional Information on Materials:

The roll pins in these sets are new production and are made in the USA by a company that has been in business since 1912.

They are manufactured to conform to ANSI/ASME B 18.8.2 and are made of hardened (Rockwell Hardness RC43-52) carbon spring steel.

The double sheer strengh of the smallest (5/64" diameter) pins is rated at 800lb., while the larger (1/8" diameter) pins are rated at 1,875 lbs.

You cannot buy these pins in all the correct sizes for an M14 / M1A from a hardware store!

Incidentally, ... these are the exact same pins that you would recieve if you bought the set of 12 from "A Very Well-Known M14 Parts Supplier" for $20.00 including shipping ($1.00 per pin + $8.00 Shipping).
