Barrel length of Remington 700's

Ok so I know that the Remington 700 CDL has a 24" barrel in 30-06 and the Remington 700 BDL has a 22" in 30-06.

I own a Remington 700CDL and I wanna cut the barrel down to 22" so in effect it is just like a BDL. My question is could someone who owns a BDL please give me an accurate measurement of their barrel, im sure it is not 22" exact. Please take it from the inside of the step where the chamber/action meets the barrel. Either use inches or cm's please and be as acurate as possible. Thanks

24" barrel on .30-06

Personally, I would just leave it "as is'.... I have a 22" Rem 700 BDL and a 24" Win Model 70 XTR in .30-06.... I like the 24" for the .30-06. :cool:

I agree here. I have a 22" barreled BDL-DM and I have to push pretty hard to get 2700 FPS with the 180 grain bullets. I think the 24's would go 2700+, yes?
 
If you want a 22" barrel, then that's what it will be once your gunsmith cuts it, and a 1/16 one way or tother won't make any difference to velocity, accuracy, or balance. Take a cleaning rod and drop it down the bore of your rifle until it stops against the closed bolt face. Mark the rod at the muzzle, then withdraw the rod and measure the length to the mark. As close as you are to 24" is as close as you need to be for 22". The only time that you would worry about the precise measurement of where the barrel was to be cut is if you are shortening the barrel of a match rifle, in which case you would want the tightest part of the bore to be at the muzzle.
 
I wanna shorten it because I feel the 24" barrel is too long for my hunting purposes. I hunt Ontario bush mostly with some fields mixed in and a 22" barrel is what I shoulda bought in the first place I think. I am not selling this rifle any more, I woulda taken way too much of a hit on it so I am gonna modify it to what I want.

I think a shorter 22" barrel will carry and handle better for me where I hunt, so I wanted to get it as close to Remington specs as possible and the BDL is Rem 22" spec.

Im not sure what the BDL length is on it. But 22" will make a pretty slick CDL. Make sure you put scope mounts on it that high enough off the action to clear your thumb through to carry it. That was one thing that drove me NUTS about my CDL SF, I had Leupold X-low mounts and I had to "cradle" the gun in my hand while one handing it through the thick stuff.

Once she's done you should have a slick Nor-Ont machine :cool:.

Just tell the gunsmith you want a barrel that's 2" shorter and you'll get a 22" barrel Remington "spec" barrel.

By the sounds of SavageFans questions and past post, he'll be lugging this rifle around the thick quite a bit. It's always nice to have another carrying option when your shoulder gets tired.;)

Moving your scope high enough to get your thumb through won't jeopardize cheek weld...well unless you have a skinny little face.

I carry my rifles through some of the worst dog #### bush you can imagine, but I still prefer my scopes as low as I can get them...

But I carry it in both hands ready to pull up quick...
 
K enough of that, I allready have good mounts on there, back to the barrel issue.

Chuck Nelson, thanks for that pic, can you show me where you started the measurement from on the chamber side. looks like you got 22 1/16th.
