It was interesting walking around the SCI Show and seeing all the manufacturers that are now getting into the production gun market. Nosler hit the scene last year with some very lightweight sheep rifles and McMillan jumped on the bandwagon this year with a complete line up. Expensive stuff but interesting for the guy in search of a semi custom. Of course Jarrett was there too, as well as Bansner and a host of others. Interesting to see how many production rifles are actually out there.

Noslers been making semi-customs for a few years now Sheepskie :D. They started with a one model/one calibre a year "limited edition" kinda thing. I think around 1000 a year. There new S/S are pretty slick.

Hows the .338 treatin you?

Nope, last year's 300WSM was the first.

Kimber is good. Seems to like the 225 grain Trophy Bonded Bearclaws.

Nosler started making rifles in 2005, then brought out the NoslerCustom in 2006. They then brought out the Nosler 48 chambered in .270WSM.

the Model 48 breaks the myth that states that accurate rifles must be heavy rifles-for it weighs just 5-3/4 pounds and delivers guaranteed sub-MOA groups. During 2006, the NoslerCustom Model 48 will be offered in the flat-shooting, high performance 270 Winchester Short Magnum cartridge.

The NCR has been available for at least 3 years. I've seen them in .300 and
.270 WSM as well as this year's .280AI

Bansner, Macmillan and Jarret have all been in the 'semi custom' market for years... just maybe not as visibly as they appear to be, now.

Actually the dates are a bit off there...well kind of.......they weren't released to the public until the year following the dates on the website so the 48 in mass production was actually released at the 2008 SHOT Show even though it was a 2007 model. The 48 was there first real move to a production rifle that was mass marketed for Nosler. I had a long talk with Kelly McMillan of McMillan Group International and he's really excited about his new production rifles. At around $5,000 they are outside the affordability of most hunters but they are very nice rifles. There must be some money out there though as many of these companies are moving to more mass marketing of production rifles.

Bansner and Jarrett have been around forever as have a couple dozen other semi-custom builders but it's interesting to see some of these companies moving to mass marketing production rifles. Christiansen Arms is another that is trying to grab a bigger piece of the market.

Jarrett is quite the salesman, I'll give him that. That's if you can get past his arrogance. Did he tell you you needed nothing less than a 30 Jarrett to take down Canada's thick skinned, heavy boned, large framed whitetails?

Never discussed calibre selection with him but did sit in on one of his seminars and it was very informational.
