These are really tough to find. I've been trying to find an 8 3/8" or 6 inch and am having no luck atall. Anybody got any idea's?

There are not very many of them around. When I shot metallic silhouette I had an 8 3/8 M-57. Shot really well with cast bullets--I sold it around 15 years ago to a fellow in Ontario--so there should be at least one out there somewhere. I have seen a couple of 6" as well but all in all not very many. Try running an ad in the Access to Firearms--there should be a few out there and not everyone is on the Net.

I have a 6" Model 57 that has a MD Charlton custom tune on it. It was a keeper before the tune but it surely is one now. The .41 Mag is one of the best kept secrets around. Those that love the 10mm [as I do also] will know what I'm talking about. Just own a S&W in .41 Mag and you won't want to part with it. That's why there are so very few offered up for sale.

Like 44Bore, I used to shoot a .41 Mag with cast bullets. That is is the finest magnum that S&W ever made.

Brass and bullets are harder to find than the other magnums, but worth the search.

I have a couple of M57 speedloaders, and possibly some brass still kicking around. Let me know if you find a .41 mag.

Thanks max, I sent him a pm. I was hoping to find a blued gun simply because I think they are smoother. However, buggers can't be choosers and I'm the sorry bugger looking, so I'll take what I can get. I've got a 17, 686, and 29, so it won't lack company.

FYI
Just in case you didn't know it, a "bugger" is one who enjoys "taking" someone from the rear. And while I don't intend to pass judgement on anyone's boudoir habits, I sincerely doubt that's what you meant here..... :p

I have a wishlist that is quite long and getting longer.

Sometimes I find stuff that is close to what I want. I have been eyeing up that 657 for a few months now.

Crummy timing, though.

S&W is re intoducing their model 58 which is a 41 mag aswell. Hope ammo becomes a little more popular than it was and cheaper, too.

Etymology: Middle English bougre heretic, from Anglo-French bugre, from Medieval Latin Bulgarus, literally, Bulgarian; from the association of Bulgaria with the Bogomils, who were accused of sodomy.

That's more information than even I wanted to know... :D

I bought the 657 from pete1. I figured I better take it and run. I was offered a vintage , unfired original 8 3/8" 57 from another member. I think it would have taken a damn good sized wad of cash to get it. Probably wouldn't have been a good idea to shoot that one.Now I just need brass and dies and some more bullets. Gonna be fun to see how it compares to my 1006. Thanks for the advice fellas.

Yeah , I think it'll be a good one too. The new classics seem to have that action lock. How the hell do you call it a classic when that POS is added to it? I'll try and post a target pic when I get some rounds through it.

I owned one like Pete1, and it was a shooter, I was doing 1 to 1.5 inch at 25y. The trigger was a bit heavy on double, but single action was exc. I am sure you will enjoy that 657. Good Deal too!
