His bases are fantastic. I actually was the first one to get the PH base for the 1200. I had contacted Richard years ago and he said that he could make one. So I was the proud owner of his first one he ever produced.
Nice guy to deal with.
If you want to go C3A1 like, then Armalite produces a mount that goes on a picatinney rail. It kind of mimics the PH base, in the back end.
Mount # EX0022 - 30mm
Mount # EX0027 - 1"

Are there Canadian dealers for that mount? Believe it or not, optics mounts are also controlled like other gun parts in terms of coming accross the border
Scope mounts and bases are no longer controlled goods, not the last time I ordered them from Brownells. I would call Armalite directly or Wolverine.
Things must've changed, recently too; I recall specifically reading that theses parts were controlled.
Good to hear they aren't; guess the Dept. of Commerce woke up.

What Brownells told me was that when it came to scope mounts is there are far to many items, so they passed it onto Dept. Of State and they say the same thing about how much there is.

C21 FMJ Ball - 147gr - just used when match ammo not available - 840m/s(2750f/s)
Norma Match HPBT - 168gr - primary round used - If I had to scratch my noggin, I believe it was 777m/s(2549f/s)
The Unertl's were sighted in with a 300m parallax zero - so that you could go either direction in shooting distances. This is the same procedure that the USMC had with their Unertl's as well.
Once you had your zero, you don't really play around with the parallax ring, as it's a bugger to adjust. The Unertl has a BDC cam set up for the Norma 168gr bullet in metres - all the way to 800m. After that, you'd use holdover for further distances.

I think Norma uses ViaVhitouri powders for it's loads. Use a 168 SMK bullet, or get Lapua 167gr bullets. VV has load tables on their www, just don't know what might be a comparable powder for burn rate.
Also, just make sure you convert the velocity over to F/s. I gave it to you in metres.
Using my rate converter:
777 meter/second = 2549.212598425 foot/second

I have a box at home, I can confirm that you are right.
Unless something changed signifigently in the last few years, I've never heard of us using M118LR. Wrong ammo for use by the Unertl.
This would throw off the BDC of the Unertl. It was designed specifically with the 168gr Norma's ballistic tables.

Totally flat! The M87 action is totally flat as well.
With a Bullet Drop Compensator(BDC) you don't need a tapered base - ergo why the M40A1 didn't use one either.
The only reason the M40A3 had a 30moa base was to extend the shooting distances - also why the M40A3 Unertl's were modified with the stronger spring. This worked to their advantage when they went the Schmidt Bender route - as these scopes need a 30moa base to utilize all the adjustment in elevation plane.
Canadians never did this - I even confirmed this with US Optics(John Williams III himself, great guy to talk to!) - the official repair/rebuild centre for the C3 sniper scopes.

Not to worry the Unertls have been out of service for a couple of years hence the destruction of the CF's Unertl scopes.The CF was retarded in using the Norma 168 gr match ammunition a far better choice IMHO is Lapua 167 Ggr Scenars far better long range performance than the Norma .
