Which Enfield Should I Buy?

It would cost you plenty, but I would recommend a no4T. They can still be found for around $3K once in a while, but while stocks have gone down something serious this last whlie, these things just keep climbing in value. A true T should have tested better than average in the first place before conversion, and was then re-stocked and sent for it's conversion. They also have a wow factor at any milsurp shoot.

Think you are a bit out of date on the No4T's. prices have risen well beyond that.

Yup, if you do know where there are some complete No4T's for $3K, there are several (hundred) guys here who really want to know!!!!!

a year ago I was where you are now. I bought an Enfield #4MK1* built by Savage to use in the military shoot. it is not pretty, numbers do not match but it has a new bolt and a like new 2-groove bore and shoots lead bullets very well. next I bought a #4MK1* Longbranch and a U.S. Model of 1917 aka as P-17, same as Enfield P-14 but in 30-06. these two are in excellent condition and both have a Parker-Hale receiver sight, both shoot lead bullets very well. the P-17 is more accurate but the #4,s are nicer to shoot for some reason. where will it all end?

I'd like to get my hands on a T myself. But due to the price its likely that I will never own one. Not to says that one may turn up in a estate sale for a decent price.

First a No.4, then a No.5, then a No.1, then a few more No.4 in various marks and makers, same with the No.5s and No.1, then find a 4T, then (repeat).

:D

Oh I know the drill

Had 2 mint No5's but sold one to my brother.

but I've resisted the 4T.... I do have a No4 DCRA conversion and thats close enough

But I also have a pair of enfield pistols :D

Enfield

No matter which enfield you get I would think you will be happy with either, I mean't No1 MK3 instead of No3 MK1 my mistake. I would like to have a P14 to add to the collection.

Sean, my No4 Mk1 is pretty accurate. The bore is very good. It sounds to me that mine is just what your after, and $500 is a fair price. You just have to get over the $25 shipping fee.:nest:

May have an easier time finding a good condition #4 than a #1. I was lucky enough to find an FTR (factory through repair) Long Branch full of cosmoline for $75. Probably the best deal I will ever make on a rifle. A non-FTR would be more valuable to a collector, but I shoot mine and enjoy the new barrel. I have since acquired 3 Ross and am watching for a good deal on a #1. The first milsurp I ever owned was a sported P14 (#3) when I was in high school in the 50's. I had the action "ears" ground off and a Weaver scope mounted at Epps in Clinton. Probably wouldn't do that now, but it shot well. There is always another firearm you really need.

Get a no 4 DCRA 308 with or without the PH sight because you can buy 308 to shoot. Then look for a No4 MKT in 308 for the same reason. I bought my No4 MKT in 308 with box and metal box with scope at San Francisco Pawn Brokers for $139.00. It was supposed to be a 303!

Don't waste your time trying to figure out which ONE to buy.

Go get a loan, By a No1, a No4, a No5, maybe sprinkle in an EAL, then buy a few
Bubba'ed sporters(cause you will begin to feel sorry for them), then start searching the net for all the bits and pieces to restore your sporters, learn about BLO and Ishy screws and stripper clips and bayonets, and for gods sake do not touch them with sand paper ONLY 0000 steel wool, etc etc etc...

Of course if you get a Mosin-Nagant or a Mauser, there will be more enfields left for me to buy...

By the way wives really love it when you start collecting enfields.

:bangHead:

LOL, before you know it you'll be on a never ending quest that none of your 'old' friends can make any sense of. They'll just think that you've hit hard times (because you won't have any money left) and have had some sort of odd psychological disorder that involves eating KD every night and talking about things no one understands (nose cap, I need a nose cap, oh yeah and a number 3 bolt head, damn and before that I need ..............)
