In a previous post, when I asked about a realoding bench I could use in my apartment, I was told that it was highly illegal.

Now since I can't seem to find any direct answers on the net, I'll ask the members of the board since some of you are pretty sharp on laws........

Is Reloading in an apartment illegal?

Thanks

reloading

the N F A had a page on their website a couple of years ago relating to the harassment of reloaders by the lieberals and of the governments intention of changing the rules/regulations of reloading in private dwellings.

I just checked the N F A website, and the paragragh relating to reloading is no longer available, but if memory serves me; the proposals were " shot down " by Dave Tomlinson.

I think there is a limit for the storage of black powder and smokeless powder; with black powder being very limited and smokeless powder being limited to around 25 lbs.
Dave at that time correctly pointed out that smokeless powders are a propellant, not an explosive and I think he stopped the intended new legislation; so to the best of my knowledge its okay to reload in an apartment, condo, duplex etc.
a good reason to belong to an organization dedicated to firearms owners.

Providing that your rental lease does not prohibit it, go right ahead and hand load to your heart's content.

My building manager is fine with me hand loading.

Yup

What kind of fudd told you it was illegal?

Oh just looked in your original thread

Looks like he dug up a proposal from 2004 never passed because it was dumb (like many new laws)

Why the f*** do we need new laws all the time?

There is an article regarding those proposals.

One reason some people think reloading in an apartment is illegal is that NRCan a couple of years ago proposed draft rules about minimum distances between dwellings for storing propellants which would have effectively prohibited anyone from reloading in an apartment or high density neighborhood/typical new subdivision. After much screaming by reloaders, and the election of a Conservative government, the proposals were shelved ( another good reason to support the party). So there are no legal prohibitions against reloading- only rules about storage which -in my opinion anyway- are fairly reasonable for most users. Also gun banners like the Coalition for gun Control and their fellow travelers are proposing such controls/prohibitiions

An apartment or insurance company rules against it do not make it illegal- its a civil contract matter.

Ya sorry guys I read the stickies up top and remembered the NRCan crap I didn't mean to spread misinformation I just though that was the way it was. So its not illegal so load away sorry again for jumping the gun on that one.

I had the cops in my old apartment years ago (no I wasn't in trouble), they liked my reloading setup.

I think thats your answer.

even though I am 100 in agreement i like generally like police and people generally sometimes i find their knowledge on laws not that good

Why the f*** do we need new laws all the time?

so the average joe thinks politicians are doing their job and the status quo is to stupid or lazy to call them on it

The NFA really hit this issue hard when it came up and thankfully the pencil pushers were forced to see the error of their ways.

You can't underestimate left-wing bureaucrats though, there have been other similar policy shifts contemplated, but thus far their best efforts have been stymied.

I'm thinking the next big battle is going to be over lead. California's ban of lead projectiles to protect the Condor and recent "investigative journalism" pieces on Canadian TV like the case of the "Toxic Swans" of BC's Judson Lake looks to be setting things in motion for a broader N. American ban. I can definitely see a complete ban on lead shot for upland game in the offing due to waterfowl feeding patterns in harvested fields.

Sorry for calling you a fudd its just that there is so much misinformation floating around its crazy....
