Suggest a pistol for my wife.

My wife recently shot a .44 magnum Desert Eagle and really liked it. However, she felt that she would not be a able to shoot a lot of rounds due to the recoil. She refuses to shoot my Ruger .22 pistol because it is "wimpy."

So what would be a logical calibre for her to choose? We've not shot a lot of pistols but I am thinking she'd like a .45 ACP or a .40. My choice would be a .357 revolver but she likes the automatics.

Good for you brother!! MY wife refuse to go shooting or archery with me. Buy her the best gun that you want and if she won't like it, you keep it:D By the way .45ACP is good choice as I saw quite a few female shooter do very well with 1911.

Get her a 9mm, Glock, CZ, M&P, USP or even Norinco.

I would try to meet up with a member from your club, or another CGN'er to try different pistols and figure out what caliber she likes first. If it's for her, it doesn't matter what you think.:p
 
I wish pistol shopping were easier. Most centrefires have to be mail ordered so my wife will not get to try one first. Maybe a Norinco .45 would make sense. I hate to give her something that does not have a quality feel and excellent reliability though.
 
if you get a .45 make sure it has a steel frame

friend i shoot with got a alloy framed 1911 for his wife and had to develope a special load for her so she could shoot it 1 handed without destroying her wrist. your wife may have the same problem.

i have small girly hands and the sig 229 fits them well, more so than the 226. also if you buy one in .40 you can get a 9mm barrel for it if the .40 turns out to be to snappy. on the other side, can get a .357sig barrel for it for fun. (mines in 9mm as i use it for ssp and 9mm = least recoil and cheapest factory ammo)

edit:a gunnar tuned norc is the only way to go since you can be sure he tuned it well and it is reliable, good trigger all that
 
If she likes 9mm, M&P, pink and you can find one.

I would highly recommend a STI Trojan, or a STI Targetmaster. in 9mm or 45acp. The 5 inch barrels are accurate, but the 6 inch barrel version is very accurate.

Now that's just ridiculous.

My girlfriend just got into shooting, she started out with a S&W 586 in .38/.357, the ability to fire both cartridges was a plus. At first she was pretty intimidated by the magnum rounds, but like every new shooter, she built up a tolerance and is now looking forward to firing more hefty loads.

She also wants a semi-auto; we've talked about it, and despite ammo costs, she seems to be leaning toward a 1911. She puts me to shame with my S&W 1911, she really does a great job with that single-action trigger.
