Russian SKS45 long thread.

Thanks a lot Curtton! I'm goona opt to shoot it if it won't diminish it's value any more. The stock though- have you come accross one like mine before with the correct factory mark, only one serial # but a wonky date?
 
Got my SKS from Frontier yesterday, it is awesome! A Tula from 1953, all matching serial numbers, and it is non-refurb! Very good condition, no pitting on the metal, just a few knicks on the stock. Cleaned all the cosmoline off and she works great.

I didn't get my ammo though, apparently due to some shipping laws? Ah well I'll grab some local.

Very pleased with mine, I hope you guys are pleased with yours as well (although I know not everyone is, that sucks).

And shoot it is what you SHOULD do!! :dancingbanana: These rifles at their peak price were $300 - $400 when you could not find a Rusky SKS. In my opinion, unless your intention is to try and collect as many different kinds of SKS as to have a collection from the different countries that produced them, there is not enough value in the rifle to just sit in the safe and not be used and enjoyed.

This opinion changes if you happen to find a 1949 :D
 
I have an interesting refurb that i picked up from Al Simmons before I recerived my unissued from Frontier.

It is a 1951 Tula clearly refurb as there are electro pencil marks on the mag, trigger group and receiver cover. I found it odd that they took the time on the metal components to actually remove the old number rather than ###x out the old or perhaps use a new unstamped part and then etch in the serial number. I believe they went to the trouble in some cases as the stock has minor signs of two former serial numbers ### out but covered well with sanding and layers of finish on the stock. Perhaps earlier dated examples had more care put in?

an interesting forced match refurb with ### parts hidden away. Most I have seen they made no attempts to hide the ### on parts.

Anyone else have one of these?
 
I was talking to one of the ladies at Cabela's/SIR the other day on the phone and she asked me why people want the Russian SKS's so badly. I was almost at a loss for words. Could it be they are more addicting than crack?
 
I know, I saw a picture you posted of your "stash". I was just bugging you. Atleast my stash is non corrosive :) I'll get back to you about that PM you sent me later tonight...I need to think about it about it abit but I'm sure we'll work something out.
