Hey Guys, whenever i sell a gun I always make sure it's very clean. Sold a Glock recently, but first totaly disassembled and cleaned very part. Spotless.
The last 2 guns I bought on this forum arrived fithy, dirty. I would be embarased to show a friend a dirty gun never mind sell it like that.
Whats up? Anybody else clean their gun before shipping?

Intelligent people who are considerate ship a used rifle in clean condition with any special instructions such as that posted by manitou210. Those who appear to be concerned with receiving payment only will ship a dirty gun. A dirty gun tells me a lot about the individual who owns it and how they care for their equipment.

I ALWAYS clean before shipping. It's common courtesy.

I've received a few guns that looked like they had NEVER been cleaned. Kinda a piss off, but if it's a good deal to begin with, I don't really care too much. :)

I would ship them like I store them, maybe a little more oiled up due to temp changes while in transit.

I would expect a rifle received to just need oil wiped off/swab bore to be ready for shooting.:)

My guns are cleaned and lubed as soon as I put them up for sale. They'll remain in the safe until it's time to ship. Only then will I take it out. I'll give it a wipe with an oiled cloth before packaging for shipping.....the way I see I it is that once I get a "I'll take it" and payment received, it's no longer my gun. I hate it when you send your payment off and while waiting for the transfer to complete you get a PM/e-mail saying that "I took her out to the range one last time and put a couple hundred rounds through her. She shot great!!".

I think not cleaning before selling/shipping automatically makes you a Douchebag.

Be Very Careful

I would be very careful as to say that guns should be sold then cleaned, before they are shipped to the new owners. I may just clean the M14 in a dishwasher. The first thing I will do when I get a gun is clean it, so what does it matter.

I once received a gun with caked green rust on the muzzle (a few mm's deep); the barrel was loose (carbine) and thilthy. I was upset as it wasn't a smoking deal, but fair priced.

The one gun I traded on this site I cleaned as best I could (an antique long gun that was in rather poor shape to begin with) and advised the other party as such.

I did buy used firearms that weren't freshly "cleaned", but I was well aware of the condition of the firearms I was buying, since I was handling them at that time.

This guy would sell you a dirty firearm. That is if he was even allowed to own one in the first place.

Haha

I'm so tempted to email this link to the guy that shipped the dirty gun, but that wouldn't take into account his feelings.:kickInTheNuts:

I clean after every range session. When I sell a gun, I also give it a quick lube on all metal surfaces and oil patch down there barrel. I have never sold a filthy gun.

With that said, I had a Ruger single six come completely filthy, I took off the grips and there was some corrosion underneath. a USP. 45 that was filthy and I had to scrub its bore for about an hour. I bought a modified 1911 from a dealer, when I got it the bore was dirty and fouled.

In all fairness though I got the USP for $720 shipped, so I understand if the guy didn't feel like cleaning it considering the price, and after it was cleaned it looked new.
