The 760/7600 Club

Some nice 760/7600's here and some good comments. I have a 760 in .243 and a nickel plated weathermaster 7600 in .30-06. I will try to post pic's. Both are very accurate. My .243 may be the most accurate rifle I own - even outshooting my varmint rifles.

Hey all, I just joined the club picked this one up from my brother inlaw today.

It even has the sweet trailer park scope mount that everyone loves.

I've got a .300 sav 760 that was given to me by a friend years ago. The wood was cracked and all beat up but it still works great. I am thinking it is a candidate for a good restoration. It's next on my list.

I also own a 7600 in .308 that I'll never get rid of. A friend offered to do the trigger on it before I shot it the first time so I can't compare before and after but it has one of the best triggers on it of any rifle I've shot. I shot my first deer (and a bunch of others) and my first moose with it.

OKAY, NOW THE MOST IMPORTANT QUESTION!

Are the 760 and 742 magazines interchangeable?

Ted

Yep, only the action won't stay open on the 742 if you're using a 760 mag. Doesn't have the bolt release...They'll work in a pinch though...

Do I qualify for membership!! have 2 in .222, a 257 Roberts, and 2 in .308. Have to confess that I have also sold a .223, a .244, 6mm, .270 and a .35 Rem. Probably anybody dumb enough to sell a 760 doesn't belong in the club, eh! ...:)....wTc

Wow you had/have some rare ones. Those .222 are worth big $$ these days...

760/7600

Question for the owners, what is the main diff between the 760 and the 7600? I see the 7600 has a monte carlo stock, is this favoured over the normal flat stock? Are the 760's better built or considered to be better quality because it was made before Remingtons QC went to crap. Would a mint 30 year old 760 be better than a new 7600?

The 760 has a threaded bolt while 7600 has 4 big lugs.
My 760 has a monte carlo stock, but the gunsmith said that must be a
replacement. I would say the monte carlo stock gives a better cheek weld.

I picked a 760 for the caliber (300 Savage), but there are really well made. Mine is over 50 years old and still working fine.

The neighbors kid had one (760) in 06. This is 16 years ago. I borrowed it to put an injured deer down once but I could not get the rifle to discharge. Talk about getting a fling fast. It was like the trigger was blocked or the breech bolt wouldn't close all the way. Finally gave up and went back for the 99 in 22 High Power.

He had bought a 15+ round magazine out of the states for it. He thought he had the world by the tail. Even as kids we just laughed at him. He shot it was a good shooter tho...

Over filled the 4 shot mag with 5 rounds?

With the new 7600's there is a choice between a satin finish and a gloss finish. A satin finished stock gets the satin finished metal work. Does the gloss finished stock get blued metal work?

I've got a 7600 in 30-06. I've known this gun since it was new about 25 years ago and it was given to me about 15 years ago.

Today, I bought it a big brother, a Tikka T3 in 300 Win Mag :)

760/7600

These are absolutely gorgeous rifles!!! I would consider them to be a great big game hunting rifle for the woods. I am gonna get my hands on a 30-06 real soon and i'll post some pics as soon as I do. More pics guys!!!

The 760 is an awsome hunting rifle, my father has tagged more big game than I could ever dream of shooting with his 30-06, 22". He is now 72 years old and still gets out for the odd deer hunt and will always carry that same 760, I hope to god it gets passed down to me one day. I will oil it and clean it a few times a year and make my son proud to own it in 30 years from now!!!
