4200 vs vx111 vs conquest

I thank you guys for all your replies, I changed my mind several times in the past two weeks, from leopold to zeiss to bushnell. At first I was set on getting a leopold but after reading a lot of reviews and exchanging many pm's I think i'll have to get a bushnell 4200, it might not be the best of the three but it comes really close in terms of quality and is sold for much cheaper.

Good choice, you will be happy.
I read this thread section of the forum every day, the first thing I see is the Leopold warranty center as a sticky, that is such a turn off from that brand. How many people do you think asked about getting a scope fixed before it made the status of a sticky?

the zeiss conquest 3-9x40 is $499

Wholesports (and us) were selling the Conquest 3-9x40 last year at $499. My new dealer cost is a way higher price now than we were retailing them for. Since we sold all our old scopes at the old price we had to replace them with new inventory at the end of last year. There have since been two price increases, one in November and one again on Jan 01, 2009. Our current retail price $689. If anyone finds old inventory at $499...buy it !...as you would be buying less than current dealer cost. Phil.

So I raised my budget a bit and started reading around and it seems that the bushnell 4200, zeiss conquest and leopold vx3 are all very popular lines but I would like to know which one is the best.

which line do you recommend? which 3x9 / 2.5x10 brand did you get?

and is there another brand that can compare in quality and price to these 3 that I mentioned?

Not sure about Zeiss. (NEVER HAD ONE) I'm sure these three scopes are all nice scopes "BUT"
You may want to consider eye relief when buying a scope.
Bushnell 4200 line has alot less eye relief then the the Leupold VXII and VXIII series scopes. If you are mounting a scope on a magnum rifle that has a fair amount of recoil? you may want to get the scope with more eye relief. **EXAMPLE** I had a 8mm mag that thumped really hard. I had a Bushnell 4200 2.5-10x40 on it  Off it came, then bought a VXIII 2.5-8x36 What a difference. Alot more eye relief. I could then shoot the 8mag with out flinching. That Bushnell was a nice scope for sure! "But" not near the eye relief i needed when shooting the 8mm mag. Thats my two cents! ;) hope this helps you factor what scope to buy. Not saying that Leupolds are the best. I JUST REALLY LIKE THEM. Light wieght, compact, lots of eye relief. ;)

I have a 4200 on my 270, next scopes I bought were Leupold for my 25-06 and 257 WBY mag and I will not go back. Better optics, better eye relief, and if you search on the Optics EE, you will find a Leupold at an affordable price. You will not be sorry, Leupold is 100x better.

I'm with Saskacop ! Try a 3.5X10X44 from Zeiss and you will thank me. Mines is on my 300RUM with more than 250 rounds and it is still right.

It depends, what kind of rifle, is the scope to be put on. If it is going to be heavy kicker, say 300mag on, then Leupold should be considered. Anything less than that, Burris FF 11, and Bushnell 4200, is plenty good, and will give You the best value. With those brands, any imaginary optical diferences, can be sorted out only by laboratory. Zeiss.....well, if You have image issues, and lots of disposable income, knock yourself out.
