Price of primers almost doubled?

When the investment threads came up and some suggested buying ammo and components some laughed. I wonder if they're laughing now?
About a month ago I sold 1000 large rifle primers to a friend. Against my objections he insisted on paying me nearly double the price that was still on the carton. Now that doesn't mean much until you know that he works at WSS, and gets to stare at an empty shelf all day. Then it starts to sink in.

I have a box of 1000 win small pistol that says 17.99 on it and I was happy to find a box on Sat for 39.99. I have been waiting a long time to get it.

Sad, I should have stockpiled but my habit is out of control and I can barely keep up!

Good thread- I bought 1000 CCI BR-2 large rifle primers at the 2008 Kamloops gun show and paid $48.00. Not knowing anything about the cost of primers, I later on thought I'd been hosed when I saw the price tags on the boxes I'd inherited from my dad.
From what I'm seeing about ammo and reloading components shortages, it's looking like a good time to stockpile.

I was looking at a brick of small pistol primers (cci $50) at one 'established' shop and ended up buying Federal ($38) at the newest shop in town. They also sold me a brick of Fed small rifle @$38 as well. It pays to price check.

For someone getting into reloading, this makes me one sad panda.

On a similar note I went to Al Flaherty's to pick up some Winchester Wildcats.
Brick used to be 17.99 three months ago.
Now it is 22.99. I said no thanks.
Now I'm wondering if I made a mistake.

Even with the higher component costs reloading is a lot less than factory ammo.

Oleg if your rifle shoots the Wildcat well, I'd go back and buy 5000 rounds, some guys give you a small break if you buy a whole case, then 2 years from now when it is $40.00 a brick, you'll have made a wise investment.

I find it hard to believe that guys still buy Rimfire one brick at a time, stuff doesn't go bad. FS

1000 Winchester small pistol primers at Shooters Den in sudbury was $34.00....higginsons still has them under $30....yes prices are going up....

I guy who makes the rounds at the gun shows in southern Ontario has been selling me S&B primers for $25/1000.....Good primers.....
And NO, I`m not telling who he is...

Dogleg hit the nail on the head, its no so much the price that bothers me the real kick in the ass is trying to get what you want!
I was one of those guys that loaded my stock up, an bought 25,000 primers mostley Fed GMM, and win Lg and Small and Lg rifle and small some CCI brs. Sure glad I did , because its not easy to find fed primers this year.
