I am new to the gun world(only 20) and my Remington 870 express came with a 18 inch barrel and a 20 inch riffled slug barrel. I shot riffled slugs out of the slug barrel(5 slugs) and just realized now after doing some research I am supposed to be shooting Sabot's out of it. Will it be ok? I cleaned it really well after with brushes, solvent and then patch, then oil with patch..... Did I mess it up:(
 
You're fine. Shooting regular slugs out of a rifled barrel won't hurt it. Slugs are lead. Lead is softer than the steel used in the barrel. Your 870 may not shoot them as well as it will sabotted slugs though.
Remember that your shotgun's mag must be plugged for hunting anything but big game. Some Provinces require the plug for any game.

I believe you will be fine as my rifled barrel has shot probably 250 slugs of both types. The only thing I noticed is that the sabots are just a wee bit more accurate (not enough to justify the rifled barrel IMHO, and that it needs a more thorough cleaning as I get more ledding and "plasticing" in the rifled.

My rifled slug barrel is now a safe queen and I use smooth bore only. I may be persuaded to go back to a rifled barrel if I can find a longer one, but at 18.5 inch, the benefit just isn't there in terms of velocity or accuracy, vs the extreme ease of cleaning a smooth bore. I just use a boresnake 2-3 times with some G96 or whatever and it is mirror shiny again. With the rifled bore I find I'm puling crud out endlessly.

There's only one way to find out and that is getting to the range and giving them a try in your gun. No one slug always works well in every gun. Having used both I've found rifled barrels shooting sabots tend to be somewhat more consistent between different brands than smooth bores using rifled slugs. YMMV.
 
Whereabouts on the island are you?

I've got a rifled barrel 870 and I've been using rifled slugs... mainly because they're wayyyyyy cheaper!! (at least I've found so). Practice is usually a lot more important than uber accurate ammo, and I know I tend to shoot less when it's costing me a sh*tload.

Also, rifled slugs are still quite accurate... more than accurate for my shooting, and I got my first deer with it this year! I've knoticed a little leading in the barrel, but compared to shooting corrosive surplus through an sks, it's nothing:p
