How think is the breechface of the Glock in comparison to other guns? Like say a 1911, or an HK, etc...

From the pictures I have seen it looks very thin, and considering the fact that it is one of the more common spots for a Glock slide to crack (seems to be this spot, and right under the ejection port where the slide also seems quite thin), it makes me wonder why they have not corrected this by beefing it up a bit. Of course we would never hear about it, because Glock would never admit a design flaw lol

Anyone ever experience or witness a crack in either of these two spots? I have a decent collection of pics showing fractures in these two spots, but wanted to see if anyone here had experienced it.

I know.... how DARE I question Gaston's design...

This one isn't cracked/fractured yet, but was disturbing nonetheless..

Don't get me wrong. I love Glocks, so this is not a Glock bashing thread. I'm just curious if anyone has ever compared the thickness of the Glock's breechface to say a 1911, or any other pistol.

It's been reported to happen to anywhere from 1st gen, all the way to 3rd gen Glocks. Doesn't seem to be all that uncommon. These are the pics I have found, but there were many more threads where the person did not have a digital camera to post pics.

Seems that the breechface and right under the ejection port on the slide are most common.

In "The Gun Digest Book of the Glock" Sweeney also speaks about the breechface being subject to erosion (like the bottom pic), cracks or peening (where a portion of the breechface actually becomes set back) all depending on the hardness of the steel.

We have never seen them here, and I have a big collection of cracked Glock slides. All of ours failed through the side of the slide.

So GLOCKS crack at the breechface AND the slide?! Yeah, I'll get right on dropping a 1000$ on one of those. sarcasm off.

i need to sell all my glocks !!

i've seen far worse from 1911's ..... i guess we should all stay away from them too..hahaha
