Russian SKS45 long thread.

Saskatchewan is red neck.

Forgot to mention that Northern Tackle still have 79 Russian sks rifles for sale.

when you say there are 79 russian SKS for sale , you mean home hardware .

bcos northern tackle is not a retailer nor an importer . they bot their SKS from IZH .

I think all of us out West are Red Necks, I am a BC boy living in Alberta. If I could still have a gun in the back window of my pick up, I would. My SKS and my stainless lever would be my choice of all of my guns to display.
You can - nothing illegal about a gun rack - just can't leave them unattended in sight.

I mean Northern tackle has 79, least that's what they told me yesterday.

Home Hardware has 120, they bought them from Northern Tackle.

Okay- maybe this is karma:
My daughter stayed home sick today from school. I stayed home from work with her. My reward (aside from the knowledge that I was a loving and responsible parent) was that my SKS from Frontier's second shipment was delivered by Canada Post at about 11!
:D
I can't wait to get it open and will post some pics to show its condition, etc.

120 , thats alot . i would order from them only if they ensure i wont be shipped one of those refurbs .

$200 is a good price .

While there is nothing illegal about a gun rack in the truck window, and carrying a rifle there, its still a really good way to get pulled over by over anxious police (in southern alberta anyway) I know several people who have been detained by the police and sherrifs for doing this, coming back from trips to the range, or hunting. One of these was the result of some do-gooder calling 911 to report a friend "driving with a firearm in the window", which resulted in him having 3 patrol cars pulling him over and question him about why he had his 306 hanging in the gun rack.

The correct answer...
"Because it gives me pleasure and it's not illegal!"

I find it funny how Ellwood Epps, Frontier, Al Simmons and a bunch of small time places like Brusheys and some home hardwares are getting Russian SKS's, but somehow SIR can't manage to get thier hands on any.

Anybody else have any excellent to mint conditioned unissued\matching serial SKSs? Itching for another one... only this time I want a guarantee that it'll be in that condition... for a fair price.

Ok you guys from Montreal. Call Baron sport/Sail in Pointe-Claire, they have 5 Rusky SKS's. I have no idea how much, or if they are even on the shelves yet, but they do have them. I saw one that was a refurb and was not all matching and the mag was mutilated, so I did not even bother looking at the others, and I just spent my $$$ on a new Marlin from a CGN dealer :D

I believe all the baron stores( there is 5 I believe) got a few SKS's, so maybe you will be lucky by checking a cpl different stores and find a nice one.

Good luck!!

Ok, I have a little more info on these. Four are from 1950 and the fifth is 1952. They are still not out on the shelves, but at first they wanted $289 and I got him to change that to $239. They know nothing about SKS's. I only saw two of them, and both have forced parts. They are all black, and have Artic Birch stocks. Ask for Jean- Marie.

I may be wrong but I have a feeling its because SIR took orders at $169 and can't find them at aprice that would allow them to make a profit.

i was wondering the same thing myself... im going to keep my order and if they ever get an shipment of them id be lock in at 169 ea.

anyone have a good method for removing the paint on the refurb bolts?

That's actually a really good explanation. We know for sure there shouldn't be a problem for SIR to get the rifles in their hands.

Here's my (fully reversible) conversion of one of my Russian SKS from Frontier.

This is a Ram-Line SKS stock which is non-folding despite it's appearance (Kalifornia-style). The reason I had this around is because I bought it for a few peanuts on eBay from a disarmed, taxpaying Kalifornian slave (aka "citizen"). :p

Anyway, these stocks cannot accommodate bayonets either... I had to file off a piece of the plastic and make a groove in the stock so that the bayo would retract like it should - otherwise it would stick out enough to literally impale your left hand while shooting. No kidding, the tip of that sucker is real sharp... So if you plan on installing something similar on yours, you may have to either modify the new stock itself or remove the bayonet altogether, all depending on how the new stock is made.

Come to think of it, Simonov should've conceived the rifle with a pistol grip to begin with, inspiring himself on the STG-44 or other advanced assault rifles at the time. It looks so much more versatile with the pistol grip and has the feel of a real assault rifle. The SKS is its' original form is a lot more like a camp gun; a deer's worst nightmare at best! :stirthepot2:
