How soon should one clean there sks after shooting corrosive ammo?? Basicly how corrosive is the corrosive ammo? After trips to the range I normaly clean my guns almost right a way, but I'm talking about going camping for a week or something, should I clean it after shooting or is it ok to wait until I get home.. I'm a newb to the "red rifles" if you can't tell already LOL...

i took my mosin on a 3 day camping trip, shot everyday, it slept with me in the truck(read humid) and didn't clean it til i got home, no rust in the barrel but the bayonet had some rust forming, i think i just got lucky though, i would at least clean out the gas system of an sks after a shoot.

I have shot several hundred rounds out of my SKS and have cleaned it normally after shooting. I haven't noticed any issues, although it has a chrome lined barrel. VZ-858 is the same way with the exact same ammo - I haven't had any issues.

I recently met someone that never cleaned his rifle after shooting corrosive...
I couldn't believe my ears. Apparently it still "shoots straight".

I took one of the Russian SKS to the range today ,it hit a less 3' MOA at 100 using just iron sights!!! no expansive scope require.:agree: WOW! The Russian SKS is well made and will priced. I will pick up few more Russian SKS this weekend.

3' or 3", there's about 33" of difference there:p

I don't understand how the ammo can be that corrosive?? In real combat, wouldn't there be days before most guns could be cleaned?

Yes, that is absolutely the case. Many of us are shooting surplus rifles that shot corrosive ammo and weren't cleaned for days or weeks. Fact. Does that mean you should let them slide now, no. If you can, clean them. If you have to wait a couple of days after continuous use, then clean them when you can. It also cannot hurt to run an oiled cord through them in the field, just to keep them lubed. IMHO.

I flush my barrel with boiling water soon after shooting with this. My barrel is non-chrome , so I do not wait long to clean it.
