Do the Dominion Arms short barrel doubles shoot to POA?

the backpacker is threaded but hutchster told me that it was not a thread that any of the beads fit it. At least any of the beads at Joe Brooks. So he had it tapped. Maybe the Outlaw is the same.

I must say I find AJcoves results somewhat disturbing.

I would have hoped the patterns would draw closer together the farther you went out.

As for it shooting high, some kind of a pedestal for the bead like Remington and Mossberg use on their short barreled guns, could be brazed or even JB welded on. When I replaced the bead on my HP9 it was threaded for Browning/Winchester threads.

I'll try mine soon and see if it's shoots as wonky as AJ's.

Q: couldnt these barrels be adapted to take a different choke?

can the barrel be threaded to accept a screw in full or turkey choke?

I know the original question was about POI,not group size... is there a way to do a home job barrel regulating? i thought i heard of double rifles having set screws that allow regulating adjustment

You guys just need to get a feel for the gun and shoot from the hip instinctively.......no need to worry about fine tuning the bead on the "Outlaw":D:D

Instinctive shooting involves the trained subconscious. How can one do this with a gun that shoot in two different directions? Hmmmm! "I am using the right barrel so I must shoot to the left or am I going to shoot my left so I must shoot to the right" is a conscious thought, by it's very nature is slooooow! Instinctive shooting requires good equipment.

So how does it work on an expensive SXS?
The barrels are regulated to come together at a set distance.....then what?
What about before that distance?

Why not just make the barrels parallel and except that the left one will be 1/2" to the left of the bead and the right one 1/2" to the right?

And Covey if you think you need top gear to be an instinctive shooter...check out this old timer!

That is just that! The good ones are regulated to come together at a set distance. The bad ones start out apart and get further apart as the distance increases. It is not rocket science to understand the concept but it takes much more than slapping two barrel together to make it happen.

I am not understanding where you are going with the top gear thing? To make something instinctive, something or at least one thing has to be constant. A barrel can be way off the mark and you will be able to learn to shoot it by instinct. You can even learn to shoot a cheap s**t gun by instinct much like you can lean to drive a car from either side. Two barrels that are off the mark and poi different from each other will require a mental ajustment or a conscious thought. Better to shoot with a cheap off the mark single or pump or whatever. Anything else would be better.

BTW Can, I said good equipment....not top gear!

Judging from the pictures it looks like there is enough metal in the barrels to install choke tubes. Also available are custom off centre chokes that can be used to address barrel regulation issues.

I'd recommend Steve Milton at Precision Arms in King City, Ontario, for this work. Steve has years of experience with sxs and installs custom choke tubes. Let us know his reponse when you bring in your Outlaw.

Ol' Rufus was pretty good eh!

Pretty basic rig.... but he just new where his shots were going!

Couple more questions for you guys......Thanks for the info by the way!!

What is the typical range for a good SXS where the two patterns overlap into the center of the point of aim?

Are any SXS's parallel?

How are Over/Under's setup?

I can see the outlaw not being regulated to everyone's preference but I find it hard to believe they would build them angled apart so the shots start out bad and just get worse!

Looking forward to seeing some more patterns at different ranges from the Outlaw.......i

That is exactly what has happened. Check Post #53 by a j cave. At 25 yard both are about 21-22 inches high and one is 8 inches right and one 6 inches left. At 15 yards both were 6-8 inches high and right and left about 4.5 inches. Since both bores were sxs it is obvious that they never did cross and both are going higher from point of aim and further from each other. Just to take the mystery out of this a bit, I will tell you that the longer the bores are, it is easier to regulate them to stay near the same route for most of the practical range of a shot pattern. Another mystery that I will reveal to you. Cut short guns as short as the outlaw were lighter and easier to carry and with the chokes cut out or off had a larger pattern, and were certainly bad looking, but they never did shoot to same point.

Ol'Rufs was superior! Yes he did know where his shots were going! I'll bet he did not alter his length of pull much and I will bet he never made his sling shot into a double, especaily a ridiculous short double. And I bill bet that he never desired bad ass looks over function;)

I do not know! Most good ones are so close within normal bird range or target range that it does not make much difference. Some are not! I know of some trap guns that are designed to throw a higher pattern for the first shot at doubles and a flater pattern for the longer second shot. I recall in the late seventies that perazzi advertised one of their doubles to shoot a lower second shot.

Are any SXS's parallel?

Not intentionally! but who knows?

How are Over/Under's setup?

One barrel is over the other instead of side by side;)

I seem to recall that Remington marketed an over and under of some description that allowed poi to be adjusted for the under barrel?

Four posts in a row. Easy there big fella, or the boys with the "outlaws" il get ya. Not that they could hit ya.

Actually some of the best conversation I have had recently has been with myself:confused:

Win, don't you think it is about time you dropped the "Proudly on "Sheephunters" ignore list. " signature. I am proud to say we are no longer the subject of his signature. It's good to be baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack eh?

Hope no one takes me took serious. I don't:D

If anyone has plans to take their outlaw out to the aheia range near Calgary, PM me as I would love to give one a try.

Maybe not! I might get ambushed:D
