The Italian garand sights, connection is back

Thanks again WWIII for your post!

I think I will have to apologize to 45ACPKING for high jacking his thread.

I will start a new thread if I have more questions!

Thanks again guys wish you all have a great weekend!

Cheers:cheers:

passing on this deal ...... i guess, if your norc sights feel good... stick with them.
It has been my experience though, with all the norcs i have handled.... the rear sights just aren't up to par. It's not so much that the metal is soft, it is that the tolerances on the machining of one of the critical parts is off enough to cause this part to strip the threads on the pinion shaft on the windage adjustment side. If you never take the sights off, yer probably o.k. but i have found that there is generally so much "machining grit" left in these parts that it acts like a lapping coumpound and wears out the elevetion sight pinion gears. This means that upon cursory inspection of a new rifle.... the sight often needs to be removed, cleaned, lubed and re assembled. It is during this process that the windage lock ring that mates with the pinion shaft, spins when it's not supposed to and flattens out the pinion shaft threads on the windage side. And THAT is the main reason guys like me recommend swapping out for a garand sight as this problem virtually does not exist with usgi m14 or garand rear sight.

your mileage may vary...... and your findings may vary..... depending on how many of these rifles go through your hands and work bench on a weekly basis ;) . 167 rifles later and .... i found this part out of spec on 90 % of the rifles i have inspected. I do however have several good norc sights ..... but i did operations on the windage bolt, replacing the windage lock rings with new ones that were to spec ;)

I ordered a set from andy only because he has some Garand sights with Breda dials and the bold white numbering (these are the ones to buy). This set will replace a set of USGI M14 rear sights which have numbers that are too small and not readable under less than perfect conditions even when I use white crayon to outline them. BTW thanks for the lead.

LOL. Heard this one before. "They used to make the numbers readable on these things. What the hell happened to quality control." Maybe you need reading glasses. :D

no front sight???

you better p.m. me.... we can fix that hehehe , i can drop one to you when im out there on the river steelheadin ;)

The first time I took the rear sight off for cleaning of all the "grit and oil" the threads stripped, and the windage no longer works properly at all...
I should do myself and the rifle a favor and order these.

On another note, does anyone have any experience with the springfield national match rear sight? They're about 150$USD

i get this when i click on the link and i can't order one dammit "Unfortunately, access to this particular item has been blocked due to legal restrictions in some countries. Thanks for the heads up on the Garand sights, I just ordered a set. I kinda hate dealing with E-Bay and (FRAUD ALERT), but I had a (FRAUD ALERT) credit sitting there to be used. I believe you can buy sights (and other Garand parts) directly from this seller, his email is: Ghostkill@libero.it

My M14S is from 2007 and the rear sight is "sloppy" and the aperture is drilled off center, so not all 2007 rifles came with decent sights. The rear sight is the only Norinco part that I was really unhappy with.

I just received my two in the mail. They look pretty good and arrived with no problem. So seven days from order to delivery. Not too bad from Italy. Now I just have to figure out how to put them on! :)

I received mine too but the sight cover was broken and no white lettering on the sights. I specifically requested Breda with white lettering as he was advertising in the picture, he didn’t even reply to my email/ebay message. He doesn’t get my business again.

Huh. I haven't got mine yet and its been a sight more than seven days. Checking my account I ordered mine on 2/5. Seems like it should be here soon.

The two I received have the large US numbers because they are US. marked. They are both VG/EXC condition.............
