I`m thinking of getting one and was wondering about one thing, are they chambered for the European/surplus 7.62x39mm which if I remember right is acutally .311 dia bore, or the American version of the round with a .308 dia ?

Also wondering how do they shoot with surplus ammo?

Check with the company as 7.62x38 is .311 dia.

308 is a different cartridge all together.

X2.

In the case of 7.62x39mm the bore diameter is .311 inch but .308 inch diameter bullets can be used. The CZ is a neat little carbine, nevertheless.

It is 7.62x51mm NATO that actually corresponds to .308 Win ....

Had one. Nice little gun. I liked the set trigger on it. Iron sights were OK to about 75 yards. It would have been a shame to put a scope on that little gun. VERY accurate. I sold it and now wish I had not. I have replaced it with a Ruger Mini 30. Better to 125 yards with the Ruger peep sight. Not near as accurate as the CZ. But it downs deer just the same.

What kind of ammo did you use?

i just bought one, started a thread asking basically the same questions.

But I also took it upon myself to just risk whatever the danger and put a bunch of surplus through it anyways.

It eats those bigger bullets with no real complaints. Probably heats up a little faster, and i'll bet it's painting the inside of the barrel with copper, but ... whatever.

The only real downside I can think of is that I like the poor little thing enough to actually pull it all apart and use soap and scalding water to remove the corrosive stuff. That can be a little time consuming, and hard on the brain because I stress about it if I can't make it somewhere to clean it quickly after use.

y2k, I have 6 CZ rifles of different models. They run from rim fires to center fires up to 308Win. They were all acceptably accurate right out of the box. They became impressively accurate with bedding and floating jobs. The CZ my buddy uses chambered in 7.62x39, has a .310 bore diameter and shoots both .308 and .311 diameter bullets very well.
Your question is a little confusing as well. It sounds like you may be asking if it will shoot the 7.62x51. I assume you're asking if it will shoot .308 diameter bullets as well as .311 diameter bullets. It's like girl friends, some will some won't. They will both be safe as long as your hand loads are within spec.

I remember reading that Soviet/European 7.62 x 39mm has a bullet Dia of .311, and the Ameraican VERSION of the 7.62 x 39mm round is .308 dia. I was wondering if this rifle was made to take the European .311 or American .308 Dia 7.62 x 39mm:)

This was covered a few days ago. 7.62x39 and .308 are two different cartridges.
So check before you buy as something doesn't sounds right.

M43 Ball "Eastern Block" 7.62 x 39mm = .311 dia
USA VERSION of this round 7.62 x 39 mm = .308 Dia

308 Win or 7.62 x 51mm NATO = .308 Dia

I shot Igman and Privi in the 527. All .311" The same stuff I am shooting in my Mini 30. This is soft point hunting ammo and it works very well.(non corrosive) The 527 is about .310 it is not .308

So the "USA version" is simply a wildcat version.

Unless one plans on finding dies and reloading for this wildcat ammo is going to be scarce.
Personally I'd stick with the European version as ammo it is available and it provides a larger wound channel for hunting applications.

I shot one yesterday with surplus ammo. It shot really well and it was a blast. Now i want one probably going to be my next gun after my sks arrives. $200 for 1200 rounds how can you go wrong.

I've seen one of these and they sure are a handy little carbine. Think it might be my next rifle too. Be great in the bush and just plain cool to own!

There's no wildcat version. Just that the USA uses a .308 diameter bullet instead of .311 diameter. A .311/.303 will shoot in a .308/.300 bore no problem. Might be a tad tight, but I've fired many surplus .311 rounds in a Mini-30 .308 bore without problems. If you're into better accuracy it's good to know which bore you have to match the bullet correctly for optimum results.

I've also fired .308 bullets into a tighter target gun which have the .298 bore instead of the usual .300. No problems also.

I was also wondering, does this rifle shoot the surplus ammo, ie Czech ammo without a problem or is the primers too hard for it?
