Just wondering who's shooting factory ammo, with their factory rifle. (basic mods are OK ie bedding)

If you do shoot Factory ammo and rifle,... what are using, what have you used and your feedback.

While every gun shoots differently, just some general feedback would be a great resource.

I'll go ahead and start.

90% of the time I shoot a Marlin 30/30 RC with 170 grain Win Silvertips.
I find these bullets absolutely great. Inside of 200 yrds I have never had an animal go more than 25-50 yrds. I have bang flopped deer at 180 yrds with this combination.
Moose Bear and Elk at 150 and less have been dead on their feet, and fell within what I would guess to be 20 seconds.

The damage and penetration has always been good, and has always exited on deer.

I have used Hornady Leverevolution as well. They shot a little bit flatter, and seemed to be a little faster, but did not change the hunt within 200 yrds.

I get 1 inch groups at 100 with the 170 win slivertips.

I also tried the 30/30 (hmmmm, what was the name of those strange varmint rounds) I could not get a 3 inch group with them (varmintexpress maybe?)

22-250.
CZ550 varmint rifle laminate.
This rifle performs with 45 gr JHP cheapo winchester value packs.
I switched to 55 gr SP Federals, and it really likes them, but for the life of me I can't understand why the 45 gr JHP performed better on target (though almost negligible)
I have only used this rifle on coyotes, magpies and the occasional crow, and a couple of jack rabbits. The 45 gr hollowpoints are just crazy. If you want to keep the pelts or eat the rabbits, you may want to stick to head shots, or use a different bullet. What an exit it leaves.

I'll post a few more on the 45/70 and 450 Marlin later.

Perhaps if we post the calibre and rifle in the title of the post or at the top we can skip right to ones we are interested in.

EDIT: After re reading this I noticed I didn't say much about the rifles. Give feedback on the rifle too ! Especially ones that are of good value and perform admirably

No brand loyalty in rifles...pretty well have all the majors covered but am a big fan of Hornady and Federal ammo. Like Trophy Bonded Bear Claw, Interbond and TSX bullets. Did enjoy some good results with Remington Scirrocos though.

Just to get the info...

What ammo are using in you rifles.. if you remember,... ie grains etc etc.

LOL...which rifle ...

Too many to admit to.

225 in .338, 165/180 in 30-06, 150 in 7STW, 139 in 7RM, 180 in .300WM, 117 in 25-06.....still working on new 270WSM.

Haven't shot a factory round at a game animal in 35 years. There is some very good factory ammo available these days. I had a Federal premium Factory Load in my 7mm Rem Mag that shot an 8" & an 8½" group at 1000 yards. [150 Ballistic Tip] Regards, Eagleye.

Can't remember the last time I bought any factory centre fire. My hand loads only. Factory ammo is too expensive.

What performs on sheep and what range (from your experience)

I took mine with a calibre I was used to, but had to accept the limitations of my choice

I guess they'd all kill sheep...I've killed rams with 7mmSTW, 264 Mag, .50 cal muzzleloader and been along on kills with .30-06, 300WM, 25-06. Pretty much any deer cartridge will do.

I'd be comfortable to 400 yards and likely more with my 7STW but shot last year's ram at 59 yards..lol

I use a a 300 winmag Tikka 695, my go-to ammo isfactory Super X winchester 180 gr power points. The Super-X power point ammo has been good on everything I've shot so far, which includes black bear, elk, mulie, moose, and whitetail, from 50 to 450 yards. I did a "reverse" texas heart shot on a big wt buck a few years ago, the 180 gr. PP penetrated stem to stern. I used to load 180 gr partitions but i don't bother anymore.

I haven't found much difference in 150 vs 170 gr bullets in the 30-30. Surprisingly the 30-30 out-penetrates a lot of faster bullets in similar conditions. A 30-30 is deadly to about 200 yds and maybe further if it's carried by a man who knows how to shoot it. A lot of people talk down on the ol 30-30, but it punches above it's weight in the bush.

For years until I started to reload I had one rifle a Sako 270 Win.
I had it bought new in 1984 and I only shot Federal Premium ammo for hunting.

I would buy PMC for days I was off to the range to plink and practice because it was much cheaper, and both brands shot very well.
The Federal gave me that extra bit of confidence for hunting.

t3 hunter 338 win+federal or fusion 225's =good groups and dropped critter
m77,7/08+140 federalor fusions= same results
browning A bolt 280 rem+140 fusions= same results
savage 7mmwsm+150federal= great groups no game shot with it....... yet

Factory fodder only for my centrefires as follows:

Ruger M77 MK II Varmint Target in .22-250 + Hornady 50 vmax = very accurate (three shot group all touching at 100 yds) and awesome on coyotes. Don't hit the spine or shoulder though!

Savage 99C in .308 + Winchester Super X PP 150 gr = approx 1 inch groups @ 100 yds

Remington 700 ADL in .30-06 + Federal Blue Box 150 gr = Approx 1 inch groups @ 100 yds. Bought these to sight it in and found them to be accurate enough to take to the field. Plan to try something in 165 gr in this rifle. Any suggestions?

I've used a 1951 94 Winchester in 32 Special for the past 6 or 7 years. I use Remington or Federal ammo. Great old deer rifle and cartridge. One shot to the boiler room. Next year, I might use a 1913 Savage 1899 if I can get my gun room ready and load some ammo. I got lucky at a gun show and found a bag of new brass and a set of dies. :p:p

I use a custom made 270 that was made about 40yrs ago, I bought it used for $450. Winchester factory superX in 130 gr. Accuracy its fine for hunting as long as I do my part. Done the reloading thing, I found 4 boxs of 270 win ammo at the Calgary gun show for $15 a box. When thats done I'll likely be done.----Cowboy

I have used 130 grain silver tips in a .270 for many, many moons and taken more than a few deer and have yet to have one exit the animal. They mushroom perfect and drop the animal thats all you can ask for.

My Savage 116 stainless 30.06 loves Federal premium 180gr. accubonds, although the bear and moose populations hate it! I've taken everything the province of Ontario has to offer with this combo with fantastic results.
