Any bullets I have ever bought (10s of 1000s) from BDX have been jacketed. Any ammo from combat masters I have shot have been jacketed. To my knowledge, BDX does not deal with plated at all.

Might have been some kind of re-packaging/return faux pas. But I doubt they came from BDX that way. Did you take it up with P&D?
 
I would not worry about the quality of range brass

1 fired 2 x fired 48X fired it still will work. I have lots of brass manufactured during the second world war. Functions fine. 45 is a low pressured round,,
 
For me, I bought 1000 Federal 230g FMJ and reused the brass for reloading. I also bought 2000 'once fired' brass at a gun show and scrounge what I can at the range. Some of the .45ACP brass I use have been reloaded in excess of 10 times. I tend to lose and ruin brass faster than it takes to wear them out, mind you, I reload them on the 'soft' side.
 
I've found no difference in lead feeding between RN and SWC- but plated is way better. How you crimp is the important factor -ask me how I know :redface:

Because you can reload them so many times, range brass vs new doesn't make a difference. Separating out the small primered brass (winclean, ICC) is a PITA. I've found plated cases seem to split sooner than brass ones- may be psychological though.
 
Thanks everyone. I think I will just go with some used brass.

JOOC... someone mentioned that .45ACP brass lasts a lot longer than 9mm brass.... how much longer roughly precentage wise would you say? I was udner the impression that 9mm last a decent while.

I've seen 45ACP with the head stamp worn off
How many reloadings does that take?
 
I have always used SWC in my 1911's they are perfectly fine and never cause any feeding problems... 100,000 rounds cant be wrong...

45 acp brass lasts forever... when they crack you toss them... other wise they are good to go...
 
I fired 500 rounds of Plains LSWC from Russels in Calgary (I think the supplier is somewhere in Western Canada though) and I've had no problems with them through my Nork 1911.

Absolutely DO NOT buy Excel bullets from WSS (http://www.wholesalesports.com/onlinestore/control/category/~category_id=10520076/~pcategory=10520). I bought 2x 500 round boxes of 9mm 124gn LRN that ended up being 130 gn LSWC. I also bought a 1000 box of .45 ACP 200 gn Copper plated RN that ended up being anywhere between 190 - 225 gn and .449 - .455 wide (I reloaded about 200 rounds before I realized the error in my ways - and man that made or a crappy day at the range)
 
Definitely buy your brass to start out. Otherwise you will never know how many reloads have been done on it. At least if you own it you can track it. You won't always be wondering if the next round is going to come apart or not :)

Good advice.

He'll likely sell you some very clean and perfectly sized brass instead/too.

Good guy, very good IPSC shooter.
