Any Landowners need Feral Boars Shot?

Called Fish & Wildlife today. Yes, they know where the boars are. No, they can't tell me where they are. Why? Because they can't divulge the names of private landowners who've got boars unless the owner specifically asked the wildlife officer to advertise their willingness to have hunters come and shoot 'em. Okay, fine.

So...are there any landowners on these boards who'd care to advertise?

It's reading week next week, and I'm heading to Cypress County and need something to do. I'd sure like to shoot me some boars, and provide the shortgrass prairie with ecological relief from invasive species while I'm at it.

I betcha any money that there wouldn't be a single feral pig left in Alberta if Sustainable Resource Development got all affected landowners to list their request for boar hunters somewhere on these boards. Problem solved! Sadly, I imagine it wouldn't be that simple...

Have you considered...ummm....reading?

The sad truth is, so many of us have had such bad experiences with 'hunters' that we'd actually rather put up with the wild boars. The boars are generally more considerate.

Well, I can't defend slob hunters. :( But I would rather go and shoot some yummy vermin instead of reading!

Oh well, thanks anyway.

Hope all the rest of youze have a nice time with them domestic pigs yer talkin about! :p

I'm pretty sure those "wild boars" are just a myth. I mean I keep hearing about them, and coming across all this wild information, but I have yet to see any evidence other than a few internet posts and rumours.

Kinda like the sasquatch and jackelopes.

They are the real deal...I have relatives in the Lethbridge area that have shot them. There is also someone out that way who does "canned" hunts on them too I think...He's got a section fenced in that has feral pigs running on it.

They are not domesticated hogs run wild but wild hogs semi domesticated that ran loose and bred. Ive seen them in Sask and eaten the meat. At the presnt time Im attempting to have a couple of owners allow me access. There are horse and cattle on their land and they have had trouble with hunters. I will keep trying as the numbers of hunters are down a bit in that area. The kids used to hunt them from sleds in the snow as they cant run through snow very well. Those kids have moved. They breed like crazy.

I've heard tell of where there are some, south east of Swift current SK, Last I heard they were domesticated pigs, prices went way down on Pigs and the farmer couldn't afford to feed em anymore. So he relased them, instead of killing them and burying the carcases. Now 10 yrs later they are pretty much wild and roaming free... or so I hear. The story is unsubstanciated but there you go.

I have also heard of Wild turkey down by Cypress Hills, Moose buy Regina (which must be true as they opened a draw season for them) and a few others....

Lots of rumours & lots of Coyotes... I usually just hunt the Coyotes.... I Know they exhist!!

Well this is precisely what I mean. Domestic/wild/feral/whatever, that is just semantics. But again, it seems we have all "heard" about a guy who knows a guy... Myself, I have heard there are some out near lethbridge, some up near Camrose, some outside of Caroline, some in south SK, some in west MB. I still have yet to see anyone with a photo of themself posing with a dead boar.

And I'm not trying to call anyone out, don't get me wrong. It just seems the whole hog thing has now made friends with the Sasquatch and Mothman.

The wild hogs in Saskatchewan are not domesticated hogs but like razorbacks that farmers are starting to breed that escaped or were let loose.
