Thanks to all who have taken the time to try to help.
Cambodian Tire carries a few different kinds (here anyway).
They carry the Berzomatic line and none are suitable, in spite of what the store flunky tells me.
Find a refrigeration supplier in Ottawa. Should be able to get Stay Brite there......and a variety of other silver solders as well.
Tried many, and have done their homework for them i.e. searching their suppliers' databases for the match. One acceptable product from one supplier does not get shipped to Canada.
Princess Auto has silver-solder in a syringe $5.99 item no. 8127003. 10 to 25K strength. says it may be used with chrome, stainless, nickle, etc
Have tried it in the past, whatever flux is in it is not aggressive enough to prevent oxidation on the stainless.
Trevj--my local "the Source" and similar electronic suppliers don't have anything close. As for buying U.S. I certainly have the patience but wanted to exhaust all local possibilities first.
Waba, go to Boc gases in the east end of Ottawa,
Strike out, even checked with their suppliers. You are absolutely correct as to the distinction between silver solder (a brazing process) and silver bearing solder, a soft solder with a flow point around 450 F, the lower temp stuff won't hurt the barrel.
If you're looking for "silver bearing solder" that'd be your problem. Look for plain old silver solder
Thanks sunray, but there is a distinction, temperature is important in this application.
I just got a quote last week for the same thing to install a barrel liner, the solder is available from Bertrand body shop and welding supplies in L'oringnal Ont it is 163.00 for a half kilo and the flux is about 30.00
Thanks for the definite lead here, quantities and cost a bit beyond my needs.
Waba....if you are REALLY stuck and can't find what you want....PM me...I have some "Stay-Brite" here....could probably send you a bit.
A generous and much appreciated offer I'm reluctant to exploit but please check your PMs.
Once again thanks to all who replied.
