Just picked up a maverick from a buddy of mine for $100 couldn't pass, i was there when he bought it a few years ago and we had it out skeet shooting once, other wise has never been out of its case. Seeing as i got my glock, and my 10fp, I need a tactical shotgun, i am ordering a ar style grip and stock from marstar. what can i do to the barrel. its 28 inches now. Is it legel for me to take a pipe cutter to it??
Where can i get a mag extention? i know parts from the mossberg 500 fits this gun.
lastly will it be legel to take hunting with the ar stock here in nova scotia?
Any help or ideas setting this up would be great.
oh and more, best way to paint it for cheap?, my glock is OD green has to match.

Yes but it can only be cut to 18 1/2.

You will have to buy a magazine for a 500 secutiry PLUS another barrel to fit.

Not such a deal now.

still a good deal. 100 for the shotty 100 for the stock, plus some paint, best cheap way to paint it?? cut the barrel to 18.5,, for $200 still a nice shotty to play with when at the range. later i will pick up at 500 secutiry or something and will already have the ar stock. Not bad for my budget right now, Christmas is great for the few days, but seem to pay for it the rest of the year!!!

I'm guessing the whole gun has to be 18.5", not just the barrel, correct?

do we have to report this mod to anyone after cutting a barrel?

Non-restricted firearms are ordinary hunting and sporting rifles, shotguns and airguns with an overall length of 660mm or greater. Many airguns fall into this class because they are capable of achieving a muzzle velocity of 500 feet per second. If it is a centrefire semi-automatic firearm, the barrel length must be at least 470mm to be non-restricted.

I'm kinda confused here, we can purchase 12" norinco's but we're only allowed to saw a barrel to 18 1/2"

Don't be confused.

It's really rather simple. The framers of the law didn't want sawed off shotguns. They may/may not have wanted to outlaw our shorties, but that wasn't made clear, so let's just assume that they didn't.

There are short barrelled firearms that come from the factory. Youth and women's models for the most part.

So..... anyway, the framers of the law had to have been informed when considering a barrel length, that they would be making illegal, tens and tens of thousands of "chipmunk" .22 rifles, and ladies .410 single shot, shotguns.

They didn't wanna do that, so this is how the law is worded.

From the manufacturer....fine.
Some crazy in his basement..... not ok.

Make sense?

P.S. Let's never use the word "loophole", OK?, I prefer to think of the outlaw as exactly what the framers of the law had in mind to purchase.

Yep. It has to be factory barrel in order to be under 470mm. Otherwise it's prohibited device.

Nope, he may cut it to 457mm (18 inches).

And no its not a prohibited device. Barrels are uncontrolled gun parts, regardless of the length they are chopped. The firearm attatched to a barrel modified by cutting or sawing below 457mm becomes a prohibited firearm.

I am about to purchase a 16" barrel from somebody. How can i know that the barrel came like this from the factory, and not modified (cut) to 16" from a barrel that was originally longer? There is nothing on the barrel to identify it as a 16" (or any other length for that matter). Last thing i want is to purchase a barrel that would make my shotgun prohibited.

it was the liberal cabinet back in 95 behind closed doors along with a bunch ofoics- soon as kim campbell lost power and they got into government, one of the very first things they did was introduce c-68- basically, what they said was campbells controls don't go far enough- they had to monkey with each aspect of firearms and anything they didn't like was either included in c-68 or added to it by means of an oic- the "framers" of that bill had no idea what they were dealing with, and they're now out of parliament altogether, but the abortion they left behind still exists

The lieberals were the ones who went nuts with the harassment OIC's. but they had help...

The civil servants who wrote the OICs are long since retired on a nice indexed pension.

Wendy Cukier who drummed up support for this monstrosity is alive and well and living in Toronto holding a day job as a Ryerson professor when she isn't drumming up funding for her privately controlled Coalition for Gun Control.
