My New Sako 338WM Your Thoughts

Have any of you guys shot the Sako AV in 338, or any other calibre in the AV line. What is you opinion of how they compare to the 75 and 85?

the 85 was a 270 win . The only thing the Loads had in common was the powder I used :)

I have to admit the factory recoil pad on a 85 is about a 100x better than the one that came with the AV.

Do any of you guys use see though mounts? These are the kind that allow you to use your iron sights and or scope depending on the hunting circumstances?

"NO" never ugliest/crappiest things that were ever developed for a firearm...

I use pop off scope rings and mounts when I want to use irons instead of a scope.

Yeah... I hear you!!!!

I was really asking what is used to give you access to both scope and iron sights. Who make a good set of pop off rings?

I finally got my relaoding stuff unpacked.

Here is my favourite load for the 338WM
225 Barnes X
71 grains Viht N160
Winchester Case and Primer

TuffeddyB is correct. No more meat damage than a 280 on deer. The nice thing about your very accurate Sako is that it can go a little out there in a bit of wind and touch something

Low talleys are a bit higher than the low leupolds. If you need to get your scope down a bit more go with leupolds. Low's should be good up to 40mm objective. IMHO talley is a superior mounting system, rock solid and good looking. On a larger cartridge such as your .338 win, you don't want to piss around with sub standard mounts plus.... it's a sako, you want it to look good too. You can get waever bases for sako's now too, I haven't seen them yet but if you can find a solid steel base with a set of zee rings, that would be nice too.

Here are a couple pics of my sako wearing low talleys with a leupold 6.5-20x40. It used to be a .338win, now its a .338 jarrett. It should have a similar barrel contour to yours.
