Hello, well I just received my second SKS, this time from Yorkton. A real beautiful piece. It has the proper mag pinning and appears to be an original........... except....... the the stock is a 1951 model(stamped in) with the original numbers XXed out and matched to the rifle. After a few russian cigarettes:onCrack: I started to think of the possibility of this '51 stock being original to the '52 rifle.

Picture yourself slaving away at the Tula factory assemblig rifles, it's the summer of 1952. You look around and Comrade Jeffe is no where to be seen. You reach over and grab last years stock out of a refinished bin and slap it on. Home in time for borsht. What's the difference? Did anybody even care back then how these "tools" looked aesthetically. I was also wondering if ALL stocks are/were number matched to the rifle. I'll post pics for the people waiting on sir lol

I have a 51 that is new and non-refurbished, all matching numbers except for the stock, which was X'ed out and restamped with the new matching numbers.

Thanks. Luck of the draw I guess. Kinda like a box of chocolates. Maybe it's your orignal stock, Light infantry! LOL. Interesting about non numberd stocks and the ability to say it could be original

Hi Curtton. I noticed that this one has the correect trigger base, as you pointed out before, for the year and I believe the gas block is an early version too. Not only is the bayo gold, the snap hook is too!!(with a little mold as well)

The Russians never threw out a useful weapon or part therereof. I have no doubt that re-numbered stocks were used on otherwise unrefurbed arms.

Emmab's stock shows the usual inspector marks and factory markings typical of a new issue carbine.
