Chinese Proof Testing

There is no doubt that Chinese guns are rough around the edges and it is very hard to argue that they are better then other guns produced at greater cost in other countries....

How many Chinese guns have you personally owned that were lemons Easy?

By your tone you are not a fan of Chinese guns period. Fair enough...but why the need to spread your gospel?

What are you afraid of?

It's amazing how much of a hate on some people have for these guns!

There have been some very valid points raised around these guns, but to conclude that they are all crap because some of them are having issues is a stretch.

If you read enough gun forums you will hear people complaining about crap they bought from almost all the manufacturer's and some guns are well known for their poor performance out of the box.

As long as the distributor is willing to warranty the guns with no shipping charges, ( which he has stated) there is not much risk with these cheap shotguns as far as getting a lemon goes....

I would agree that's a very fair and amicable/sensible statement.

....as far as them blowing up on the line and injuring the shooter and others near by...

That sort of imagination is somewhat overstretched, IMO :) Having said that, it would be prudent not to completely discount the potential for liability issues even if that may be a single case out of thousands and if the question of proof resurfaced consequently.

Bottomline, regardless of our thoughts and opinions, every single one of us gather at this site (CGN) many times a day :D because we all have absolutely one main interest in common i.e. a strong affinity towards the shooting sports, firearms and firearms associated stuff :)

I feel that enough dust has been stirred already. As such - let's enable the concerned business establishment to now pursue/address the issues raised with some peace of mind. I ask that let's all stop this here and now.

28.57% not happy with their purchase, according to the owers only poll.

First you accuse me of starting an "unscientific pole (sic)" that is only good enough to be "pissed on" and now you're quoting it's preliminary statistics?

Does this mean that you now accept the validity of the poll and withdraw your previous derisive statements?

Or does it mean that you are willing to knowingly quote statistics that you feel are invalid simply to try to advance your opinion on a product which you have no actual experience using?

I do not think anyone has a hate on for these or any guns! They are inanimate objects for Gawd sake! I for one do not think they are worth all the drool! The end.

Yes, Sir. Stay on topic we will.

I know Norinco normally follow Russian Military procedure.

Did Russian mark their military guns?

No proof marks on my HP9 either but that doesn't stop it from proving itself to be a very dependable shotgun...

Nothing wrong with that. But don't you think that all guns coming into the Country should be proof tested (from an unbiased source) and marked so?

No! Did you sleep through the US anti-gun lobbies harping in the 1990s that all guns should be 'proved' to be safe, or subjected to the same level of product as all other commercial products? Thank god that stupidity was shotdown in the states by the NRAs concerted effort; the last thing we need is any authority/group or agency that could be used by the govt or antigunners to halt importation of firearms.

People seem confused about what 'proof marking' and submission in most of this world has usually been about, which has usually had less to do with safety garantees than it has tracking and taxing of firearms and regulation of thier sale. With guns being the political football they are, I don't want anyone else jumping in the pool.

Keeping our perspective

When I ordered my Grizzly & Outlaw from CanAm I was looking for economy priced, utility, no frills guns for hunting, bush predator protection & survival.

When I opened the boxes that's exactly what I got.

Despite some minor cosmetic flaws these guns are quite functional & safe.

If you're looking for proof testing stamps, superb wood to metal fit, rare wood stocks, custom good looks & eye candy such as scroll work, silver/gold inletting & engraving then Greener, Purdey and H&H would be pleased to take your order.

Minimum price tag starts around $25,000 CDN.

Well you see some would want us to sit around and not introduce new shooters to the sport or go hunting anymore while we wait until we can afford to buy a shotgun that costs as much as a truck.

BTW IIRC proof marks came about because of the dangers of Damascus barrels.

Also Winchester shotgun ammo is tested...and often fails.
Remington shotguns are tested...and we are seeing more failures and QC issues.
New Mossberg rifles get tested... and are having problems.

What to do?
I guess just save up for a Benneli. :D

There may be some affordable guns between the price of an outlaw and the price of a Purdy.

Damascus barrels were fine with black powder. The problems arose when shooters used higher pressure, modern shells with smokeless powder in barrels only carrying black powder proof. The Birmingham proof house was founded in 1813 well before the development of smokeless powder.

No one needs to buy a shotgun costing as much as a truck. It's not about the cost but about quality and value. The Outlaw and the Grizzly are the same price. A shooter would be better served with the pump gun than a shoddily constructed hammer sxs.

It would appear that the quality, appearance of the delivered Outlaw sxs shotguns are quite variable.

;)Some out of the box Outlaws are indistinguishable from a "real" shotgun and others conspicuously bear the characteristic handiwork of the "Mad Fileman" who I suspect is a Wendy "agent provocateur" masquerading as an employee in the Chinese firearms factories......chuckle.....chuckle.;)

;)Another possibility is that all the employees working on the quality control inspection aisle of the Chinese factory that made the current batch of Outlaws booked off sick from the flu when this shipment of guns was being assembled.;)

The point being (sarcastically) made is that some of us lucked out.......some didn't.

From my personal perspective I bought dirt cheap & I got dirt cheap.

You get what you pay for.

I'm holding off on my order from the Purdey Custom House until my hand picked 649 numbers work their magic for me.

I got more than I paid for. e.g. Norinco 1911, M305...and the $99 SKS!
