Hail the World King............

Just a heads up... the sun does set on the British Empire these days. :p

WHAT!?!?! What kind of blasphemy is this?

I wish the Empire still existed. *sigh*. The world would be a much better place. Cheap walnut from all over the world to decorate my house, excellent tea, an army that knew how to keep the savages in line. How did they manage to screw that all up?

They stopped using Enfields.

No, actually, they let the ####ing liberals, pansies ,hand wringers and socialists run the show.

Negative. Clearly it was the lack of Enfield rifles. Everyone knows that indirect exposure to Enfield SMLEs instills proper moral values and societal direction. Once they got rid of them, look what happened. I call it "The Enfield Factor".

I see can you getting 'Hero Status' from 303carbine.:p Gotta' admit though, I do like my recently acquired Jungle Carbine.:)

Between this and your 'barrel break-in' thread I've come to realize something..........................................................................

you are a wise guy.... or wise man, I mean.:p:)

I am surprised to be the first one to point out that you are comparing apples and oranges. The .303 British is a full powered cartridge that COULD be used to take pretty well any N. American game. Note I say COULD, not Should, even though it shot a lot of elephants in its day. The 7.62X39 is a reduced power cartridge that allows better control of full-auto fire in a shoulder weapon. Deer at close range, maybe OK, but definitely not a BIG game cartridge. Actually, neither one of them performs up to the 30-06 which gets all kind of criticism here, eg: "boring", because it is an even better cartridge for all N.A. game, with the possible exception of the big bears.

Well thank you my good man for the kind words. I'm glad I can help the wonderful members of CGN occasionally.

Alright "biting-wit" turned off for a second:

The first "big" rifle I had was the 303, and I have a huge soft spot in my heart for it (as well as the British Empire). It's a great rifle, lots of history, great cartridge for most anything. I've owned an SKS, and sold it. Under-powered, over-rated, innacurate cartridge. Rugged as hell, but then again so is a shovel. (A marlin 30-30 does the exact same thing in a smaller, lighter package, and I can get ammo ANYWHERE.)

Secondly, the barrel break-in was a tongue-in-cheek transcript of my range session the other day. Basically the second time out with the 25-06, and had a lot of fun. I didn't realize how hot my buddy and I got the barrel until afterwards. Didn't warp it or anything, but she was certainly toasty.

As for the moly, I was at the gun shop looking for 87 grain bullets for the 25-06, and grabbed the cheapest ones I could find. Turns out they were moly coated. I had no idea what that was/what it did, so I just loaded the bullets like normal and fired away. Only afterwards did I learn you are supposed to coat your bore, tinker with your loads, all that good stuff. Regardless the rifle shot well and I had a fun time.

Anyways, back to my biting-witticisms. God Save the Queen!

I'm suprised no one has made mention of the Mauser and the 7X57 cartridge :stirthepot2: While the 303 is a grand old gal of the empire, didn't the Boers hand the Brit's their butts on platters with the little 7? :stirthepot2::popCorn:

That being true:eek:, I've got all bases covered:). I recently acquired a 303Br. Jungle Carbine and I already have an '08 Brazilian 7x57. I should be a politician:p.

I guess you could say that the AK is the weapon of the masses but the .303 was the weapon of the classes.

I have a soft spot for the smelly, that was my first centerfire rifle, and was better than some that followed. The .303 is the ballistic equal of the .308, so what's not to like.

Good one. That I have to remember.:)

X2 I have a soft spot for the old girl but I still prefer the 7X57....not sure why but I do.

The .303 is the deer cartridge for me around here, with the shorter distances it is a good choice.Although I really like the 7x57 and have hunted with it.
Most of the time I take the .303, mainly because after I gave my Remington 700 7x57 to my son, he won't let it go out of the house without him.
If I want to shoot it ,I have to wait till he is in school.:D

The Boers didn't win any Empire with their German rifles. The British claimed one fifth of the planet and one quarter of the world's population with that lovely girl, the Lee Enfield in the antiquated 303 rimmed cartridge. It is an historical piece of our physical Canadian culture. Live on, 303.
It was my first centre ( this forum apparently prefers the American spelling of center: shameful) fire rifle also.

Well the Boers were fighting for their homeland and the Brits were fighting them for someone else ideals...Besides which I'm told the Boers were better shots and had better rifles then the Brits.
