Brass Annealing????????

The 'Search engine' just doesn't work anytime I look for previously recorded info on such subjects, not sure why, so here goes........

Just for conversation purposes, who here anneals their bottle neck rifle cases?

How do you do it, what's your set-up?
I know how it's done, but how do you, yourself preform the art of annealing?
What's your tricks and tips?
 
I have a 3" deep, steel, tray(a foil roasting pan will do though) I made while working in a metal fabricating shop, long ago. Water in tray up the just below the shoulder, heat with a regular propane torch until the brass changes colour(doesn't need to be red hot) and tip 'em over.
Get one cracked neck, pitch that one and anneal the rest of your cases.

Do you need to rotate the case so that the entire neck gets heated evenly or will the entire neck change color at about the same time? :confused:

I guess I could find out by trying it as well. :redface:

Are you setting the date range for the search properly? If you don't select a longer date range, you are likely just searching new posts since you last visited. You aren't likely to find anything in such a narrow range. Set the "Search posts from... and newer" button to 9 months.

It's quite frustrating actually, that now that I have an annealing method I think is nearly perfect, I'm shooting Winchester cases and finding the stupid things last forever!

That seemed to work, I must slow down and read everything, before I hit that button.:)

Thank you for pointing out the other annealing thread.

It would seem that the article "The Art and Science of Annealing" has it all wrapped up into one, except for your salt experiment, which by the way has been a few months since then, how would rate your experiment in regards to it's performance over a propane torch and thermo crayon?

Good on you for thinking about the molten salt business over the lead.
