Old 870 wingmaster with ad ons or new express?

I like the responses I get on this site so I thought I might ask this last question in regards to SG's, took these pics to get a freinds opinion, good thing I did cause now its come handy....
The wingmaster can only pop out max 2" 3\4 mags but it has a few ad ons, check the pics and the remignton is bone black stock but its brand new and can shoot 3" mags and a bit over that I think, what would you do? Im new to the gun scene so I dont know exactly what are the mods on the wingmaster but im sure you folks can figure it out by the pictures. Both are the exact same price so what would you folks do if you had the choice?

Well bud I'm not a tactical folding stock/hand guard kind of guy. I like sporting arms, and to me I'd rather see that gun with the plain old stock and barrel. Their beautiful guns that will do any job you ask of it. In fact I'll go so far to say that is the most versitile gun in the World, even more so than my beloved .22 LR.

You can get any accsesory for it that you want, but I think you'll be well served leaving it stock. You may want another barrel, perhaps with rifle sights. Then you'll have a gun for all season. A full length barrel for birds and a shorter barrel for slug hunting and a camp/bear gun.

I think your talking about getting an Express instead. I have one and it will not let me down. It's taken it's share of game both by me and others new to the sport. It's durable and functions well, shoots straight and I'm not affraid to take it anywhere. If you don't own one yet, I suggest looking at buying the 870 Express combo with both barrels and the synthetic stocks. These are great guns that will serve you well

As for your picture, if you've ever shot a pistol grip shotgun with heavy loads you'll know their not fun. You can't really aim them, and if you do your going to have the smile of a hockey player. You could fold out the stock when you need it, but who would have the time? The regular stock is more practical for that reason, it's always ready to put the shot where you need it.

And this is it in action. That's Cory shooting his second ever bird. I take him with me out a few times a year, and he's becoming quite proficiant with my Remington.
 
i would buy the wingmaster .a better quailty gun . put the full stock on it as i see it in the picture. its got 2 barrels thats a bonus and adjustable choke . your good to go 4 just about anything .sell the folding stock and that barrel cover on ee.the one barrel has rifle sights should make a slug barrel 4 deer hunting .wing masters can be modified to take 3 inch shells but i never use them in my guns . ifind they pattern better if you dont try to cram too much shot down the tube . the way i see it . best of luck whatever u choose .
 
I just went through this process as I did my DD and felt that the 870 was the way to go. The Express was like half the price as the Wingmaster at WWS and they basically have the same reciever which is really the heart of the firearm anyways. I got mine with a synthetic stock and 28" barrel....a real take anywhere rugged SH. The fact that there is so many accesories and options for the Express is a real bonus
 
Go with the wingmaster. better fit and finish, easier to clean and maintain than the crappy express finish. much smoother.

I don't really think reliability come into play much, the wingmaster does have a couple machined parts where as the express is pressed or molded. As far as
accessories goes, they are one and the same.
 
If i was paying the same price for an old wingmaster or a new express I would go with the wingmaster as well. As long as it's in good shape these guns will shoot forever.

Better quality yes, better condition , not necessarily...

there is nothing wrong with the express, they are great guns, i won a couple. But the wingmaster is better. All around.
 
well im just an average guy this is my first shotgun and im not really sure what i like, wheter it be hunting, skeet or just straight up paper. Is it really gonna matter which I take
? im just curious on what you guys would do, i should have done a poll i figure

I know the shotgun you have in that picture.
My overall impression was that it is a very solid shotgun.

But regardless of my opinion or anyone elses more important is how well that shotgun fits you.

For example when I handled it in the store I personally I found that folding stock too long for me, and this would certainly effect handling for me.

So fit is pretty important, but at least you have the original stock to fiddle with if this becomes an issue for you.

I've got both. Still got the wingmaster I shot my first duck with. The Express is my main gun. As pharoah said, "they don't let you down and you won't be afraid to take it any where".
Clean them every few outings and you will have no probs with the finish no matter how muddy the duck hole.

If I was going to take a wingmaster over an express, dollar for dollar, it would have to be an unmodified wingmaster chambered for 3 inch. The prices won't be the same.

Thats my experience.
