I just aquired a M.16 Lebel, but it does not have a stripper clip for it. Does anyone know where I can get one? I've checked Marstar, eBay, Kijiji, and any other site I can google. Even US sites don't have them.

Also, I'm not 100% sure, but I think it takes a 5 shot stripper clip. How can I make sure its 5 and not 3 without buying both. I've researched it and I get contradicting amounts. :nest:

do you have any bullets for the gun? I haven't handled these guns so i don't know how to spot a refurb

Yes, the deep bulge in front of the guard indicates a 5 round magazine, if it is quite shallow, it is a 3. The rifle is not a Lebel, it is a Mannlicher Berthier, 8mm Lebel calibre. The Lebel has a tubular magazine.

I haven't had much luck looking into this gun, but I've seen this with both a magazine or a stripper clip. Do I have a choice of either or?

Also, the barrel length is weird. When I registered it they told me this is the first one in Canada registered like this. Barrel length is 560mm, and it's apparently, supposed to be around 690mm. The bluing on the barrel looks new, so it might be a referb. Any ideas about that too?

Turkish forestry carbine

If it says OMAN or such on the top it is a Turkish forestry carbine. It needs a three round clip(hard to find).

ya, it has stamped "t.c. orman 1948"
So it takes a 3 round clip, no stipper clip, damn, I guess my best bet to find one is Firearms Canada and gun shows eh?

Hi

As oldlithgow said, you have a Turkish Forestry Carbine. They were made from Captured French Berthier Model 1907/15. It's not a Lebel MLE M.16.
It's not the first one registered in Canada. The cfc, like usual, has not clue what it's doing. Your rifle is not unique, there’s lots out there.

Here 's what your rifle originally looked like.

You can use the 5 rd clip (which holds the 5 rd but you only load 3) The extra bit will just hang throught the hole under the bottom of the action.

This is what a 3 rd looks like loaded, dirty and corroded but loaded. You can get 5 rd from Numrich (gunparts corp)

Thanks Pblatzz,
I'm going to order a clip here soon.
I had a feeling that it wasn't that unique, I did find somewhere that the barrel lengths were that size. I did read up before that it was refurb. by the Turkish in 1948 for forestry use, but I don't understand how it's not a MLE M.16. It is stamped right in the side of it?

Ya the CFC isn't that smart, I got a Carl Gustaf swedish Mauser and the serial number for it is partiall covered by the stock, so instead of looking underneath it, they put a sticker on it with a new seiral number on it, so now I have an execllent condition gun, with a sticker on the side of it.:jerkit:

Just BERTHIER

These rifles are BERTHIERS, not MANNLICHER-BERTHIERS. This is an error caused decades ago by US gunwriters. The CFC has made it worse by insisting on calling them Mannlicher Berthiers. If you follow this logic, we would call the M1 the "Mannlicher-Garand" and the '03 Springfield would be the "Krag-Mauser". The Berthier is the sum of Andre Berthier's magazine and the Lebel action. The Lebel was an amalgamation of the Gras bolt and the Kropatschek magazine.:)

The reason that it is marked M 1916 with a 3 shot mag is that it is a rebuild.
Turkey obtained French arms in the 1930s.
